Yes, if that had been my mother someone would be getting there ass kicked............but in all seriousness........my mother would have probably kicked their ass before they got a chance to taser her..... One time a town cop came up to my mom's to arrest me for hitting my now ex husband with a wrench..........wouldn't listen to me when I said that i was trying to get away.........seemed to ignore the fact that my whole side of my face was black and blue and swollen..........(he broke my cheek bone and jaw that time) my mother ran the city cop off the porch with a shot guy. A little while later the chief of police came to the house and took one look at me and called to have my husband arrested and than turned to my mom and said Shirley I would really appreciate it if you wouldn't chase my officers off your porch with a shot gun.....my mom told him No problem tell him to stay off my porch.........

72 years old and tasered twice in the chest...........chances are if she had had a pace maker she wouldn't be here to tell the story now.............that cop should be fired right after they take him out and taser him a few times............

This might make me look bad to some on here but I am torn on this because I was taught to respect the law and she was pulled over for doing quite a bit over the posted speed limit in a WORK ZONE. Since my job requires me to work in those work zones and I have known people that have been killed in my profession because of people like her who don't think because of her age she should not have to obey the speed limit in those work zones.

It is sad that the officer had to taser the lady to get her to stop being belligerent. But before you pass to bad of judgement on me watch the UNCUT RAW FOOTAGE

Be honest how would it have looked if he would have taken her to the ground like the cops normally do to arrest someone who is resisting. They take their legs out from under them and come down on them with their weight. He would have crushed her.

Grandma got tasered by a policeman, three months before Christmas Eve, the law man says she was not responsive , so he aimed just above her shriveled breast, that's when grandma got tasered by an Austin policeman, they have an APB in the capitol of Texas, for grandmas passing through their state, so if driving through Austin under the age of 70, don't worry you'll be safe:

Typing this to the tune of grandma got run over by a reindeer thinking of how it's a felony to do harm to the elderly the policeman had no significant reason to tase her. On the lines of what 46 & two said because of his size he should have just grabbed her & moved her away from the street. That would have been a lot easier to explain than tasing her. She had no weapons other than maybe her tongue if it were foul but still no reason for her to be a harmful threat. Although he needs to be retrained on the use of deadly force he should be just terminated in my book. That was an unnecessary use of force.

Well she did have a foul tongue & after seeing the raw footage my opinion still stands. I highly doubt the woman at her age could surpass the officers training & strength. I realize he has to display patience & professionalism for his protection against any law suits but there again grabbing her & pinning her to the ground if he had to would have been easier to explain. He had her & let go. After getting an ample amount of volts then saying get on the ground after they already hit the ground is beyond me. Why not before. Where was back up

I don't know what state this occurred in, but here in Arkansas, for a law officer to be certified to carry a Taser, they have to have been tasered.

Well seeing the footage, I would agree with Surv. All I know is my mom nor my granny would have such little respect for the law! She did seem rather beligerent, she deserved no more then some young punk acting the same way. Usually with age comes respect, common curtosey and common sense, looks like all three bypassed her!! IMHO

I support the officer's use of it...she dared him, she tried using her age as an excuse to resist the officer and act in a manner that could have become dangerous...he warned her NUMEROUS times. She broke the law. All he did was ask her to sign the citation. She would then have her day in court if she thought it was unwarranted.

I'm not sure what to think about it. I don't know if tasering her was necessary....why couldn't he just have handcuffed her and hauled her away to jail? Surely, he was strong enough to handle an old lady without going to that extreme. If she was speeding, she should have just taken the ticket and shut up. Just because you are an old person doesn't mean you are above the law.

The officer also continued to stay calm and offer the woman EMS...I think he acted appropriately considering what he was faced with. 72 years old or not...break the law, suffer the consequences. As a society we make too many excuses for people to act like idiots and put others in danger.

Surely, he was strong enough to handle an old lady without going to that extreme.
But with the way she was resisting and how much bigger the officer was than her he could of very easily hurt her and then that would have been the story, "officer breaks 72 year old lady's arm putting her in handcuffs."
As a society we make too many excuses for people to act like idiots and put others in danger.
I agree with this 100%.

Yep I agree.............but we are talking about a 72 year old woman, who could have died from the taser.........Its sad how rude and abusive she was to the officer BUT and I mean BUT his life was not in danger at any time..........there were other ways he could have handled it...........she was out of line...........definitely...............but not enough to be tasered................and whether he stayed calm..........doesn't really matter........he wasn't in danger........so what if she was screaming at him...........he couldn't have just waited until she played herself out............she was definitely wrong for speeding and the disrespect she showed for that officer.............but he is lucky he didn't have to call EMS and do CPR on her until they got there..............Im sorry but i think taking her age into factor and him not being in an danger.............he committed police brutality and if not fired should at least be suspended.

officer breaks 72 year old lady's arm putting her in handcuffs."
I would think that would be better than officer puts 72 year old woman into cardiac arrest with taser.......

And you know..........I don't know of one person who hasn't had a shitty day that never took it out on a complete stranger when the straw broke the camel's back...........so what if this was your mom or grandma..........would you still want her tasered? I am not saying that doing that is right..........but everyone has bad days.........

I have always liked how red and black go together,
Sounds good..............but can you not muzzle me this time?

They were both in danger. He repeatedly asker her to move to the side of the road. I don't know how much footage I have seen of police or their cars getting hit on highways and if his car was hit from behind they both could have been smashed.

After seeing the raw footage, I agree she was being totally resistant. Using her age as a shield. If he had grabbed her at her age, the officer would likely have been in more trouble than now. She could have and likely would have started claiming all sorts of injuries, like whiplash at her age. It was NOT a good thing, but she was absolutely refusing to cooperate. Age has no excuse to disregard an officer of the laws commands, especially when all she had to do was step back.

And an FYI...nearly all police departments require every officer to get tased, so they DO know what it feels like before being issued a taser.

Surv...that is because the people that usually do the name calling haven't commented on this blog.

Maybe if someone says "Obama" or "health care reform", they'll come running with their mud slinging, one-sided views and insults

I watched the short clip, then I watched the long clip, and that is about 10 minutes.

They are both at fault. She was speeding through a work zone, got belligerent with the cop, and he overreacted by using a taser.

With that being said...I'd be pissed if some cop did that to my mother or grandmother.

Thanks everyone for replying ,I have no problem with anyone agreeing to disagree.I stated my opinion, I just think that it could have been handled differently. Thanks all
