Nice to know you can get TOTALLY disgusting still, just as long as it's for a "good cause." Bless their heart.

*Warning, this story alone gives some damn gruesome descriptions. Can't wait for the product...*

New cigarette warnings to be totally graphic

Boggles my mind sometimes...I myself smoke. Yet for all the years and years of danger danger, death and destruction info they have been releasing, WHY have they not banned or made illegal smoking? ANYTHING else that comes close in terms of damage has been banned, regulated or made illegal. No doubt whatsoever in my mind their not good for you. But still they persist in scare tactics, "encouragement" ads etc etc etc...why never any direct action...?

I say again, they are SO fucking bad, ban them. Of course it would piss me off, but then I would have no choice but to finally agree that they MUST be that bad instead of sifting through 300 reports which are of varying degrees of "maybe they do this" and have to stop.

Thoughts?

If they already do that in Europe, why do I see so many pics of people smoking
there??
I watched a documentary about an old folks home in Jerusalem and even the ones who could no longer hold a cigarette were smoking!
Just about everyone I've talked to in Europe still smokes heavily...

Well they have to be careful how much they scream they are bad for you since years ago doctors prescribed cigs when people where having problems with anxiety....... I have no doubt that cigs are bad for you...........BUT so is a lot of things...........they banned alcohol......its back.........Yea yea I know no one can get sick off second hand alcohol..........and I have never heard of a family being wiped out by a someone who has had one too many cigs.............The problem is that they do things in extreme..........It didn't bother me when they took smoking out of public places but come on we have way too much Govt. interference in our health...........Our nation is overweight.........and a lot of that can be pointed right at fast food restaurants and processed foods....................you see anyone making them illegal?

You want to see gruesome scare tactics.................this video is about texting while driving.............they are going to show this in the UK to stop texting on cells while driving........but at least this makes more sense than the scare tactics on smokers...........or at least i think so.

I couldn't agree more except with Ewe about people not getting sick from second hand alcohol. Let someone start puking and just see if I don't get sick right along with them LOL. I saw that commercial about texting and driving on the news last night. The only difference in the version I saw is after the girls hit the car head on and spun around they were setting cross ways of the highway. The two girls looked at each other with blood running out of their mouths and noses and the one screamed as she looked up and saw another car coming at them. The other car Tboned them and spun them around in the middle of the highway again. I'm sure it probably killed all of them but they cut it off right at the point of impact of the car Tboning them and their car spinning like a top in the middle of the highway. I can think of alot worse things than second hand smoke and no I don't smoke anymore. I quit about 6 years ago after smoking for 40 years.

My daughter-in-law is from Poland and smokes a lot. I gave her hell when she was here for lighting up in a room with my mother who has heart trouble and my infant grandson. I told her when she was in our house she would smoke outside not where everyone else has to inhale it. She did not like it, but she wasn't using any common sense either. My son says everyone in Poland smokes like that and many them don't live past my age either. A lot of people do not consider it anyone else's business, but when a smoker becomes disabled because of their habit and have to go on disability it is every tax payers business at that point because we are supporting them and paying their medical bills. That goes for people who do drugs, are 400 pounds overweight and people who drink too much as well. If pot is going to be illegal cigaretttes should be too. Both are narcotics and either make them illegal or legal but make up their mind.

Question, does anyone have any idea of all the crap that is sprayed on tobacco to kill the worms and other insects? I sure would not want that in my system.

Dark Knight simple reason they do not ban them....TAXES
The irony of this is the schizophrenic policies involving tobacco and smoking in this country. The government spends millions of tax dollars advertising and PSA's telling the problems with smoking and the diseases and problems it causes in medical costs, lost productivity from illness smokers are afflicted with.

Then at the same time they are subsidizing tobacco and tobacco processing and the entire industry to the tune of more millions. Thank you Al Gore (another irony).

The next step is the federal government and states collect huge taxes from the sale and use of tobacco products.

It is a crazy, vicious cycle.

Yea yea I know no one can get sick off second hand alcohol.

After cleaning my bathroom after the last Stupidbowl party.. I beg to differ with you. Second hand alcohol is far far worse than second hand smoke.. and it makes you sick faster.

Aug 27 @ 5:53PM
All good and valid points, thank you.

(especially about the second hand liquor... )

For the record shewolf, I dont smoke in my own house, since blueeyes doesn't. I have respect for others and have already said I well know they're bad for you. (agree with ya about the pot, too... )

Just watched the video about texting. I have to say I also encourage that a lot more, because while second hand smoke is an issue, that video definitely presses home the point about just how much damage someone can cause from inattention while driving. And honestly...while I went through Drivers Ed 31 years ago, I still remember their video "Blood on the Highway" and actually think it was MORE graphic back then. Of course it could have been that I was a little younger then.

Itsasecret...you have hit the nail on the head with a sledgehammer. What's the easiest thing to tax...? Alcohol and tobacco.

I just find it maddeningly ironic that in a country where they have to keep bikini magazines underneath the counter or mail them in a plain brown wrapper, censor the crap out of public broadcasts and radio, people have to watch each and every thing they say (and get sued regularly anyway ) etc etc etc...and yet since this is for a good cause, it's ok...

I think when they come out, I think I am going to borrow someone's kid and sue the living shit out of the government, claiming the graphic pics have scarred the poor child for life, constant nightmares, etc etc etc.... Just kidding. But watch...someone WILL.

After cleaning my bathroom after the last Stupidbowl party..

Sorry I missed it...
The party, not the bathroom.....

Oh, and WoW...?

If pot is going to be illegal cigaretttes should be too. Both are narcotics and either make them illegal or legal but make up their mind.
Neither pot nor cigarettes are considered narcotics......and although both are addictive ..........pot is illegal because it is mind altering whereas cigarettes are not..................but lets talk about that for a sec..........pot is illegal because its a mind altering drug.........even tho the fact that pot has some actual medicinal purposes as in pain control and glaucoma.........but even tho it has some good.............its illegal.........whereas does alcohol have any good points to it? does it stop the pain..........well yea i guess you might say that but not in the same way...............

This is not to say i want to see alcohol illegal.....but it can be just as addictive as cigarettes and more so than pot........people as a whole need to start taking some responsibility unto themselves.........lets stop blaming everything on smoking, drinking or smoking pot ...........lets be adults and use in moderation or stop bitching about how its affected our lives........................and lets get the Govt. control out of shit..........

oh and for all those people that are drug users or obese collecting Social Security.........there is at least one person for each of those who has learned to play the system and fake an injury so they can collect it.......
DarkKnightWalking

Aug 27 @ 6:14PM
people as a whole need to start taking some responsibility unto themselves

Best point yet. Let's stop blaming everything on something else, drugs, alcohol, society, childhood, music, income, upbringing, etc etc etc...
Instead of constantly pointing our fingers elsewhere, try pointing it inward.

I am a smoker that has quit...many times. I agree with the diverse comments made accept for second hand alcohol. I can't buy into that one.

I want to jump on the soap box and thank everybody for a civil, polite discourse with minimal political grand standing. I personally find that to be very refreshing.

Too late, I already look like him..

No, my friend, you do not look like Joe Camel. I hope this does not come off as gay, but you are a very good looking man, and a good man with a wonderful woman too!

You are so right on this also. Last night, my husband and I got caught up in watching and laughing our butts off Mel Brooks "Blazing Saddles" on cable TV. At the end we were still laughing and talking about different funny scenes. While saying all the bleeps and cut scenes had disjointed the flow of the film and made a few scenes hard to follow because a preceding scene was cut. Now, as I remember when this film came out 35 years ago it seems to me everybody thought this was outrageously funny. People went and saw it multiple times. People laughed at the cliche jokes about themselves and others. I never met any one truly offended, but this film was an equal opportunity offender. What was odd is they allowed all the references to African American men's "super size." Madelyn Khan's breasts ("teutonic titwillow", emphasis on tit), parody of sex acts, breast worship by "Governor La Ptomaine" and his scantily clad secretary and many more curse words, shit, bullshit, son of a bitch, oral sex, gay references. But they cut out every reference to names for black people.

Do not think I am saying the "n" word has a place. It does not. I do not use that and do not like it used around me. I am also not a prude, far from it. But why ban that one word and yet derogatory terms for Jews, Native Americans, Chinese, gay people, bestiality, women, and so on are perfectly fine to use? I love the movie. It was funny 35 years ago and it is today, but it seems that political correctness/ super sensitivity has crippled our sense of humor in favor of coarseness of language and who it is alright to denigrate and who is not. It really does not make any sense at all, when you think about it.

Aye, there's the rub. Mel Brooks type of humor is a lost art, really...it was always a given that EVERY thing in his movies was a joke. And that he poked fun at plenty enough types of folk that no one ever thought they were being targeted. Truly sad state of events nowadays, having to apologize every third sentence.

I hope this does not come off as gay, but you are a very good looking man, and a good man with a wonderful woman too!

Awww...wuv yoo too, bwucie...
C'mere, gimme Bro Huggz... Don't give a shit who's lookin.

It's not a myth!!!! It CAN happen!!!!

Seriously though...I DO appreciate all the input, and always do. Folks can discuss stuff and even agree to disagree without slinging shit or testosterone around...

They tried banning alcohol because it's bad for you. Prohibition didn't work. There is the war on drugs....that's not working too well either. I don't know, if they banned everything that is bad for us...we wouldn't have cars, tv's, cell phones, radios, microwaves, furnaces, etc....Ok, I know..that's getting a little carried away.

Seems to me, the more people get told "no, it's not good for you"..the more they want it.
DarkKnightWalking

Aug 27 @ 7:34PM
They decided alcohol was bad. They banned it. Big crime picked it up and ran with it, making a lot of money. Some politician had a light bulb moment..."HEY!!! we can't stop the shit, lots are using it, so if we regulate and TAX hell out of it, we can make lots of money..."

They think pot is bad. They banned it. Big crime picked it up and ran with it and are making lots of money...

For the same reason they don't ban McDonald's or other fast-food burgers and fries (which are full of fat) or why they don't ban Coca-Cola and other sodas, which have no nutritional value at all, and are full of diabetes-causing sugar.

Can you say Ka..CHING!!!!??? I knew ya could!

Aug 28 @ 12:43PM
What about alcohol? Or better yet....what about disgusting and fattening fast food that is made from mass-produced meat that usually has shit (and I literally mean SHIT) ground into it?

The government should be spending more time worrying about our environment and whether or not we will have a planet to live on in years to come. That seems just a wee bit more important to me.
