Just got the news about Sen. Ted Kennedy. He passed away a bit ago at the age of 77 at his Cape Cod home. Hard to believe he's held that senate seat since 1962. Even though I'm a conservative Republican, I have no plans on bashing the guy after his passing. But this isn't a tribute blog either.

Time passes on, and the political world continues on. So, my question is, who would you like to see run for his senate seat and win in a special election? I'm hoping for a Romney win. I believe a Kennedy has had that seat since 1952. I know Ted Kennedy has held on to it for 47 years beginning in 1962. Love to hear your thoughts.

I did post this blog with the title "Ted Kennedy dead", but decided to change it to "Who would you like to see win Ted Kennedy's senate seat?". Shewolf beat me to the punch with the announcement of his death, so I figured I would title this blog more along the lines with what this blog is about.

Did he get it changed back to having a special election? It was 4 or 5 years ago that he was instrumental in getting it changed from a special election to being appointed by the Governor because it was a Democrat Governor when a different Senator died. Now that there is a Republican Governor he wanted it changed back to a special election so that there is a chance a Democrat could win the seat instead of the Republican Governor appointing a Republican to his seat. I hadn't heard that it got changed back to a special election.

I think the voters should be allowed to choose who gets his seat. Only makes sense considering they are the ones being represented..not other politicians.

I think there should be a special election called with the governor appointing a member of Kennedy's party to fill the seat in the interim. The people elected a democrat so it should be a democrat.

I would not want to be the person to fill that senate seat. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill and you know everything you do is going to be compared to Senator kennedy. I think if the governor decides to appoint a republican to that seat there are going to be some unhappy people in that state. It should be a democrat and then hold a special election. He should just do the right thing.

They elected a person Ted Kennedy not a political party, but if you want to look at it that way they elected a Republican as their Governor, who at this time the way I understand it the law says the Governor is suppose to appoint the replacement just the way Kennedy wanted it to be 4 or 5 years ago when it would have benefited his party, but now that it may not benefit his party he wanted the law changed again. Laws should not be changed based on what political party it will benefit.

I don't think the party they are in should matter though.
The Governor should appoint who he wants until the people elect someone in a special election.

I believe 5 years ago Romney was the Mass. governor when Kerry was running against Bush for president when Kennedy wanted it changed from a governors appoinment to a special election so Romney couldn't appoint a Republican to that seat. Now that the current mass. governor is a dem, he wanted what he pushed 5 years ago changed back to what it was before. Double standards all the way with these kind of people.

Someone who is fair and unbiased and will do the best job possible for all of us, from that seat.
I know that's almost impossible to find , but that's who I would like to see fill the now vacant seat.
I'm just not sure who that person might be... at least not yet.

If she's interested, Kennedy's widow, Victoria, would be a solid candidate on her own merits.
