Many years ago my parents divorced. Like any 8 yr old kid life was totally confusing. I remember the day I was told of the divorce, but I don't remember daddy moving out. I remember all the weekends we went to his apartment. OMG mom got remarried and we moved into a real nice 3 bedroom ranch. Her new husband had 4 kids 2 boys and 2 girls. All older than us but they were nice.

Matter of fact his oldest son was so good to me. I adored him and his wife. I was so proud to say I had an older brother who liked me. I spent time at their house and I still have the bracelet (and the tag) they gave me for christmas so many years ago. Some years ago the youngest son had passed away. Now I found out my favorite brother has cancer. What I didn't know was this wasn't the first time. I called his sister to get his number, I have called so many times but he was out of reach. I decided I would try one last time today. I got ahold of him. Tears running down my checks, I don't think he realizes how much he always meant to me.

Just because a person doesn't see or talk to someone don't mean they are forgotten. I tried to convey how much he meant to me, and how much I appreicated the extra care and he and his ex-wife gave to me. I don't think he understood. But if you have someone you really care about, maybe you wanna think about calling him/her. I am so full of emotions today. I didn't realize I would start crying while we talked. NO he didn't know I was crying. He is such a wonderful man, even though its been over 40 years my heart will always hold a piece of it for him, my step-brother. I love you Mike

You have been very lucky to have him in your life. There are people who we will never forget in our lives and maybe we should remember to tell them that.

Aw Lisa, I'm sorry to hear the bad news but if he was cured of cancer before he can be again. Always hope for the best.

I'm glad you reached him and you got to catch up. I'm betting he understood more than you think...you know how men are...hide those emotions.

I'll keep you and yours in my prayers. If you need me...call me.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to
new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom.
Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon.
They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints
on our hearts, and we are never ever the same.

Sounds to me like he is one of the latter ones to you.

Mere words are inadequate. The seemingly unfair twists of life defy comprehension. Your life and his was better for you in it and that will trickle down through the family and your life and theirs. Yes, I know, it is of little consolation.

why? because. you are luckier than me. my parents never divorced.
they've been married 60 years and it has been like constant warfare
at home and abroad for sixty years. i've dreamed for years and years,
of my ma having an accident. she has many times. then we have
to rescue her. i guess some people hate each other so much they
get married to one another. i always feel like its my fault they've
stayed together. they blame it all on me of course many times.
may you all improve, feel better, and get healthy again and stay that way.
refereeing comes naturally. my two twin sisters disappeared at age two.
maybe they are on this site somewhere. ya never give up hope.

Oh Lisa! I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. But like Softie said, if he beat it once, he can do it again. Best wishes to your family.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother too!

You've learned a vital lesson about the importance of letting the people you love know how much they mean to you. I tell my family and close friends every time I see and talk with them I love them. You never know when it will be the last time you have the opportunity.

A kudo for a memorable, meaningful and heart-felt post... wish it could be more than a mere acknowledgment.

Lisa, I'm so sorry to hear this. BUT, because he has cancer does not mean he won't beat it again and be just fine. Keep that in mind.

In the meantime, until he's better, I'm saying prayers for him and those who love him, including you. And sending you gentle hugs.... If you need a shoulder, you know where I am.
