this is a repost from the vanilla site that I posted on 01-06-08
My grandfather passed away this past Thursday and his funeral was held today. He was a fine man, a good provider, husband, father and patriot. He fought in World War 2 at the battle of the bulge. He loved his country and he loved the flag.. Once he left the service, he worked for Alcoa Aluminum but his love was gardening and wood working. He could build anything! He wanted his yard to be a showcase for him and his family and neighbors to admire. And he was a man of his word. The amount of people who flowed through the church showed more than anything how many people cared for him. They called him Mr George. And the people that pulled off to the side of the road as the funeral procession went through town is such a poignant gesture, they still do that here in the south..
He was a funny man, always had a funny story to tell... and his eyes would sparkle like a childs sometimes. And the man loved to let a balloon go and watch it until it was gone. At the end of his funeral today, his loving wife of 61 years let 3 red, 3 white and 3 blue balloons go and we watched them until we could no longer seem them He would have loved it, I hope he seen it and was smiling down on us!!
