Thanks everyone who commented on my blog about my Jeep. I can't take it in for trade on the "Cash for Clunkers" because the crank for the pistons is broke, and the motor is no good it, it's as my Dad says, "seized up". Plain out, it's a doa vehicle. Plus, I just don't have the extra cash on hand right now to make payments on another vehicle.
On the bright side...my Dad has said if he sees a reasonably priced vehicle, he will buy it, and I can pay him back over time.
Oh yeah: CL and Tassie, thank you very much for appreciating my job. People like you make a job like mine so much easier.

Well it's too bad they won't give you something for your car at least...aren't they pouring something in the motors of these cars to destroy them anyway? What's the difference??
Hope your dad finds something soon!

IF you know a good mechanic that you can trust that won't charge too much, the rest of Jeep is in good shape requiring no repairs, then there is another option. Get and have installed another engine from a wrecked out Jeep from a wrecking yard. I have went that route with good results.

some ppl on a talk back radio programme over here this morning mentioned that ; cash for clunkers deal you guys have going at the moment, from my understanding of the offer, they give you (US) $4 500 dollars towards a more fuel efficient car, and part of the deal is that either you or the dealer paying the money has to have the engine permanently disabled so it cannot be repaired before being crushed for scrap. so maybe it might be worth getting your dad to double check the conditions that go with that offer, you may still be eligable
admittedly a broken crank can be replaced, but if thats what they say, ask them if you'd be elagible if the engine had a hole in the block at well, a steel rod and a sledgehammer will do that, or someone who owns an oxy cutting torch.can blow a hole in it
its all worth a try if it will help get you back on the road in something else.

If you decide to go to a junk yard to get a motor make sure its a reliable one..........one that other people you know have used............as there is usually no warranty on parts..........but as bruce said thats usually a cheaper way to do it............I have done it a few times and was only unhappy one time and that was when i bought the motor from a private owner.........................hope you get a vehicle soon.
