WoW has a point that's been boiling around in my head for quite some time now. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed.

There seems to be a helluva lot of people, including long-time Pervians, who just copy and paste shit from chain-emails and joke sites and post them as blogs. And don't pretend they're original material- all you have to do is google a little snippet of your lame "87 Ways To Piss Off A Pakistani Gynecologist" or "250 Random Jokes About Back Hair" to see that it's an act of plagiarism. If this were a college I'd have to flunk about half of the people here.

My proposal: a general ban on cut&paste blogs- original, user-generated content only. Links or quotes from outside sources can be used if the blog also includes original commentary on the outside content (other than just "I think this is hilarious!")

What do you say, Pervia? Let's bring back the spirit of blogging as the art was intended!

Have fun with your new found role as Blog Police.

I just avoid the pathetically unoriginal CUT& Paste blogs. I also ignore Cut & Paste Emails, especially the ones telling me to forward it to N friends

Let me know if you want to join my class action suit against boring blogs

I have a feeling that most people will continue to blog whatever they want on here. If you think a blog is going to bore you, there is no law that says you have to read it. There are already rules posted for the blogs. They are posted by the moderators of this site. If you feel a need of more rules on what can or cannot be posted, feel free to take it up with them. Most of the people on the blogs are at least in their 30s with a few exceptions. Perhaps that is why you are finding the blogs boring. We are not in your age group.
If everything has to be origional then that means you can never pass on a good joke you heard somewhere, can never quote an author, or post any songs off of You Tube on here. Talk about sex is fine, but most of us have no desire to talk about it 24 hours a day. There is more to us than that.

Just my opinion which with a couple of dollars will get you a cup of coffee.

See AMD: A User's Manual for similar railings. Looking back, though, I think it's hard to draw a precise line demarcating where the blogosphere ends and the antiblogosphere begins. Truthfully, precious few of these postings will fit the intended definition of "weblog," and I think this place has nevertheless served as a very dynamic one-stop shop for random musings. What's grating to me is the clutter. People who clearly invest major effort or at least demonstrate thoughtfulness or cleverness with regard to blog content are at risk of being drowned out by background noise.

However, since none of this will ever change, I just try to make a point of staying on top of the latest and pressing "last commented on" to detect activity on blogs that especially caught my interest. Of course, when I disappear for two years at a stretch, I don't quite want to burden myself playing catchup.

Points taken- however:

Plagiarism: [the act of copying pieces and/or snippets of someone elses work and presenting it as your own, in your own work] is usually done for financial and/or notoriety gain! Obviously, there is no financial gain here, maybe a little notoriety- but notoriety isn't the real reason for posting jokes and/or some facts or stories here either! Blog postings are for anything that someone cares to post- because they can! That's what blogs are for: information be it in the form of a joke or whatever!

As long as you're throwing around legal terms here- does the term: "Public Domain" [Property rights that are held by the public at large] (<----- I plagiarized that definition BTW) mean anything to you? The internet by its very nature, is all about "plagiarism" in one form or another! If you "put it out there" you're subjecting your "work" to being copied by anyone, for any reason, around the entire planet!

When you were in high school, did you not do some research on a subject [any subject- take your pick] and insert the information in a paper that MAY appear as your own "work" [for your own personal gain, I might add] or did you always supply the information within 'quotes' to include the original author of said "work" so that people would know it was quoted from another source? When you verbally tell a joke or a story or give out some information, have you not plagiarized someone elses "work?"

Plagiarism IMO, has a specific definition but is usually painted with a broad brush in the practical world!

We are here to have fun, learn a few things along the way and even give some support to others!

My 2¢ worth... and then I have change coming back!

I just wish that when people post blogs and don't get any or very few comments that they would take the hint and refrain from posting that type thing.

I have posted jokes here to share with others. As far as I'm concerned, if one doesn't like it, then they don't have to read it. I've also posted other blogs where I just throw some thoughts out there. It's a community here where people share thoughts, jokes, ideas, games, etc... Like Shewolf says, there's no rules that say you have to read all of them. I certainly do not read every blog I see. If my attention isn't caught by the first sentence, I usually move on to the next blog.

btw...sometimes we get a little tired of the piss and moan blogs too.

I think it's nice to find a little humor here instead of the piss and moan shit all the time. That's why I post the jokes just to piss people off and if everyone wants to keep pissing and moaning about it I'll start posting 2 a day and if you want to piss and moan a little more I'll post 3 or more. I'll post what I damn well please when I damn well feel like it and if you don't want to read it then don't. Otherwise kiss my mother fuckin' ass.

Like a vitamin- a 'one-a-day', will do it!

As an adjunct to my previous comment:

We do get tired of 'wiener whiners' who have nothing else to do but complain about what amounts to... nothing!!

One thing that I do admire with some people who post jokes is that they put more than one, several in some cases, in one blog instead posting them one at a time with a separate blog for each.

What do you say, Pervia? Let's bring back the spirit of blogging as the art was intended!

I don't know how it was intended, but most blogs are just cut and paste links with little or no original content. On the other hand as lintroller pointed out.

nevertheless served as a very dynamic one-stop shop for random musings.

As far as the clutter goes... it's inevitable. This site has only a few people who are trying to keep it fresh and sticky. Many of them have already said everything they're gonna say. On the other hand, if their wasn't as much activity people would wander away and it would all fall apart. Anyway, people should keep some basic blogiquette in mind (link goes to Dominus blog of a similar name).

While we're posting links to our blogs about blogging. here's mine. Actually, I think there almost all about blogging. I should change that. Anyway...

somnium: plagiarism has a legal, technical, and lay meaning. The technical meaning is being used here more or less accurately. Failing to properly cite is plagiarism. Moreover...
f this were a college I'd have to flunk about half of the people here.
...remains true. When I was in high school I cited my quotes properly. Largely because learning to cite was the primary reason I was writing papers to begin with. Public domain only really exists in a legal context. (Incidentally what's written here is the sole intellectual property of AMD unless rights are specifically reserved). The lists and jokes that float through this series of tubes are frequently not in the public domain. Actually, even works otherwise in the public domain, may be proprietary while on the internet because the scan, translation, or copy of them is a unique and separate entity from the original source. Conversation is different from written language and abides by different rules. The web has thrown a wrench in the idea that intellectual property will ever really make sense. On the common use side, it's probably looser than conversation, on the legal side, it's stricter than writing.
To your point though, I know a guy with an encyclopedic knowledge of stand-up and other comedy medium. He frequently quotes people without acknowledging the source. It's not illegal it's just annoying.
Then again, as you were saying (assuming I didn't draw the wrong conclusion), policing other people's behavior also gets annoying. Life is about finding a middle way, no?

I just wish that when people post blogs and don't get any or very few comments that they would take the hint and refrain from posting that type thing.

A lot of people do. They post a blog, it doesn't get noticed for whatever reason and they never post again. Then again the blogs that evild was complaining about frequently get a lot of responses.

Good one Max................sounds familiar too..................

I think if people don't like the blogs..........they should go elsewhere for their entertainment............just because the blog is boring or stupid to one person there are probably others that do like it.............and yea i get tired of blogs that are violating the rules.............but i report them and move on........

In My Opinion, this is an adult site, so why not act like adults...........in real life if you didn't like the company or conversation you would move on...........maybe you should think about that if you don't like it here...........(you is in general terms not meaning evil)

I happen to like some of the jokes here even if I have heard them before............as for as one comment i heard here or in bruces blog about removing a blog if it doesn't get any comments..................there are times i read blogs and don't comment because i have nothing to add..................everyone has the right to blog here..................and yea even i get pissed about the ones that violate TOS but if they aren't and its a topic you don't like...........pull up your big girl panties...........and move the fuck on............(AGAIN YOU is used in the general sense not at Evil in particular)

which is how the DISCLAIMER and other bullshit started getting posted on things people post. Sorry I appreciate a good joke on occassion oh wait! I posted jokes before in other words lighten up we are adults and will write, copy&paste whatever and whenever we choose. If you don't like it don't read it

these are the kind of blogs I get tired of whine and moan and full of shit. Trying to get people aggravated. You know evildd614 there is enough shit in my life to deal with. You I don't

Why not write your own jokes?

I think a lot of you guys are missing the point here- this is not a tirade against humor. I like jokes. But why should we just recycle the same old ones that hadn't been funny for 10 years by the time I was born? This isn't about only writing about sex, or only writing about things going on in the world that piss us off. This is about originality.
Ewe_Wish

Aug 5 @ 1:31PM
I am very much for originality............you won't find many copy and pastes in my blogs...........but that's me...........I appreciate anyone who takes the time to post anything because they are at least getting involved........this site has been losing bloggers for a while............and since I have gotten a couple emails from people this morning talking about leaving because they are tired of the whining and bitching...........and are afraid of criticism of anything they post..........its understandable why we are losing bloggers............perhaps instead of people trying to make new rules...........that they actually don't have the control to do........or the ones bitching about boring blogs............maybe they should try some thing original and entertaining...........hell I would even prefer a repeat joke to all the people who think its within their right to tell people what they can write here.........censorship is not allowed here..............thank god!!

Sorry, Evild, I disagree with you on this. People should be able to blog what they want to blog, as long as it's within the rule guidelines on here.
