Ok, so for the last year or so, my old computer was slower than my sisters snapping turtle. Yes, my sister has a pet snapping turtle, she's had it for a little over 25 years. And it's a big baby too! Anyway, the old computer (5 yrs old if one wants to really call that "old" ), for the last year was always freezing up, doing mini crashes, and being just an all out pain in the ass to run. Finally, last week, it decided to go on a permanent vacation. It could have at least given me a couple of more weeks use dammit! So, for a while, I was using my other sisters laptop, which was nice.

So yesterday I went out and got a new pc...and wow! I almost forgot what it's like to have a computer that WORKS! Pages load in seconds v minutes. I'll tell ya, that was frustrating as hell! Having high speed internet and a computer that was sluggish. Now, before anyone asks, yes, I had cleaners for it, anti spyware, adware, malware, etc...for it. It just got old and wanted to retire.

Now on to enjoying cyber world again!

Congratulations! All to many of us have had these experiences. After awhile we become cranky and down right pissy because the darn things won't work they way they used to.

Enjoy cruising the net with your new PC!

Good for you!

Problem with PCs is that usually every website you go to, leaves a little bit of itself on your hard drive! The reason is, it'll load faster the next time you visit that site! The caveat is, if you don't visit that site again, what it leaves on your hard drive, stays there taking up room!

Most browsers I know of, allow you to delete this garbage that continues to build up on your drive! The caveat here is that if you allow your PC to store your passwords for each site you frequent, [definitely not a good idea] it stores your passwords in what is known as 'cookies'. If you clean those up, you better have your passwords written down some where!

There is also what's called the Windows Registry that is modified every time you add new software, it makes an entrance into the registry, that Windows needs to know, so that it runs the program properly! If you decide to uninstall a program, it will probably leave garbage in your registry too!

Both of these conditions over time, can cause your PC to slow down! There is software that can clean up the registry! The caveat here is, if you run the software to clean the registry, you could be setting yourself up for a major problem, by letting the software do a 'global' clean up on it's own! This should be done by a user like myself that uses a PC constantly or by a 'puter tech- costing money!

Things to keep in mind!

Otherwise, have fun with your new PC!

Good tip for PC people, if you go to either the HP or Dell small business site, you can find their products as cheap or cheaper than the personal site plus you can get it with the XP OS instead of Vista which I understand sucks. Microsoft does have a new OS coming out soon that can be downloaded for free in a beta pre-release form. It is getting good reviews.

OMG, I hear that......

Myh dinosaur is behind me, I got me a laptop. I did forget how fast a real computer could be, it's amazing. I let the kids play on the dinosaur now.

I completely understand that frustration.
My old computer would have probably made yours look like speed
Griz got me a laptop and I love it!! Even with dial-up it seemed quick to me. Until I brought it up here....
He has high speed and when I go back home I have to get used to dial-up again.

Enjoy your new toy and have lots of fun!!!!

I'm hoping to get a new computer before the end of the year. Zelda is running like greased lightning now but she's so old I'm not putting anymore money into her. I'll have my 'puter man clone her with all new 'n shiny parts 'n pieces the next time she acts up.

Congradulations on the new one and happy surfing...

I like the laptop versus a computer with a tower but using Gateway probably had a lot to do with the mess ups I had.

Griz got me a laptop and I love it!!

It's also about 4years old, but runs sweet. If you have things like a messenger or something like weather bug, don't let it load at start up. This really slows things down. There are lots of tricks to keep old machines running good.

Windows 7 is the new Microsoft Operating System and is now available pre-loaded or available on new computers for free upgrades. We have a few 'puters running it and works great.
