Sometimes we all just need a little down time. Time spent by ourself to just think, let our minds wander or try and shut our minds down for a brief period.

Earlier this evening Griz took me to a spot that has a brick gazebo sitting high on a river bank with two benches on it facing the water and other side.
You can just sit there and watch the water flow, the fish jump or the occasional boat.
It was so serene and calming. I was anazed that there weren't dozens of people there but we were the only ones. Although we did see a few people walking nearby trails and two boats on the river below.
It's a rather secluded area but still safe....Know what I mean?

It's a shame that the river is too far down to fish from there...

I think I have found a new place to go when I need to do some serious thinking or think about absolutely nothing. Or just take a book and get lost in it and the sound of the water. And it's close to home in case the sound of running water gets to me.

Where do you go when you feel the need to just be where there is no one to interrupt or disturb your thoughts or your solitude?

A place where you're not hearing.... Mom, Dad, Honey, can I, did you, would you, why can't I, why didn't you, I need, I want, I'm hungry, I'm bored, the kids fighting , the dogs wanting out or the phone ringing.................

Where is your get away place?
And does anyone else know?

I miss a place like that. My parents had a weekend house on the river when I was growing up & it is peaceful just as you described it.
And it's close to home in case the sound of running water gets to me.
That's funny

Great question. I love places like what you're describing, but I don't regularly get to visit them. Although my commute is short at the moment, on occasions when it's not so short I actually find my car to be a great place to achieve solitude. It's like my own personal capsule where I can say anything; rehearse dumb jokes that I'll somehow insinuate into later conversations; reflect on dumb jokes that I should have attempted to crack; listen to any music I want without feeling like I'm imposing; and, at times, depending on my route and the traffic and how rushed I am, appreciate the beauty of my surroundings. I find I can space out just enough without endangering the other drivers

And to think it's only a couple blocks from 2 major roads. I'm glad I brought her there.

As you can see, and have heard before, I like to just go down by the river and sit, watching the water flow, listen to the wind and birds.

Like Lisa, I live alone so I get plenty of solitude. Serenity? Yeah, well I am still looking for that...

I used to go to a park on the beach when I lived in Naples...
It was always jammed , especially in the winter..
but you could always find a quiet bench or table somewhere..

i loved it when I lived on my catamaran and siled all over the western Carribean..
Talk about quiet and serene

I also live alone, but on 5 1/2 acres in the woods. Tall pine trees and a pond in the back. I sit in my computer chair looking out the window at the Deer.

No traffic...(I may have 10 cars a Day...on the road i live on!! ) The only noise..I had was my dog trying to persuade me to let him out of his kennel...for a few mins...and a few Cows...Moooooing....!! I don't have any place like that. I currently don't feel I have a need for one either.

Well, other than my dogs here, I live alone. But, when I want peace and serenity, there is a wildlife refuge I like going to. It has a 1/2 mile and 1 mile hiking trail. I usually take the 1 mile trail because at the end is an observation deck where you climb up some stairs and can see for miles around. Well, somewhat...I mean, there is woods also, but there is a small lake that has geese, ducks, cranes, not to mention all sorts of song birds all over. It's quite peaceful and I can stay there for hours enjoying it. Plus, it's a good hike.

it is a 10 min. drive, i live right by Lake Michigan & there is this one pier that no one goes to where the waves crash against the rocks & it's really quiet except for that.

Oh, about 70 MPH down a late night interstate...

Knees in the breeze and the sound of V-Twin thunder...

There is a secluded cove on the ocean in between Ventura and Santa Barbara that I use for solitude and serenity. I can sit there on a nice day and watch the waves, and listen to the sounds of the ocean for hours. And some times in the nude!!!

I was thinking something on the same wavelength............going down the road at 70 or 90 mph.........with the t-tops popped music blaring and not having to do anything but make sure i keep it between the lines.....................

otherwise lakes or rivers have always offered me serenity..............

there was also a place in West Virginia called the Golden Temple..........it was a hari kristna center...........but you could walk around, or sit in the rose garden, or sit on the cement wall and look out over the mountain ridges, or set in the gazebo by the pond and watch the ducks and swans swimming around............no one ever bothered you and it was really peaceful........
