Little People Want 'Midget' Banned
NEW YORK (July 5) - Little people are calling on the Federal Communications Commission to ban the use of the word "midget" on broadcast TV.
The group Little People of America said Sunday the word is just as offensive as racial slurs.
The request was prompted by an April episode of NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice" that the group said was demeaning.
In the episode, contestants created a detergent ad called "Jesse James and the Midgets." The contestants, including Joan Rivers, suggested bathing little people in the detergent and hanging them to dry.
Calls to the FCC and "Celebrity Apprentice" host Donald Trump were not immediately answered Sunday. NBC Universal representatives didn't immediately respond to e-mail messages, and the telephone rang unanswered at their Los Angeles office.

I think the word midget is cute. I never saw it as an offensive word. I still don't. And for the record, my ex of 8 years is 4'11. Even the word midget meant nothing to him. So, what's your take?

I don't know Sunshine.................I am not a midget so I don't know how I would feel if I was one...............I don't think the word is offensive either...........but its not me they are using it in reference to..................I know I am getting real tired of having to be Politically Correct all the time to keep from pissing people off...............I mean DAMN!! People sometimes just like to bitch about shit............
As for the term Midget.........................maybe we should ask CasuallyLooking..........she's ummm........well.............vertically challanged............

Some little people do not appreciate the term "dwarf" either even though all of the various medical conditions which plague them are referred to as _______ dwarfism.
It's a matter of awareness and education as well as respect, but I don't think we should rely on political correctness to get everyone to line up and salute on every offense. I think people should do what they can within there sphere of influence and then give it a rest.

I'll leave it to the little people to determine what does and doesn't offend them. But banning the word? Maybe it is becoming in bad taste to use the word, but if we want to ban bad taste the FCC is going to have to shut down about 99% of the programming on TV.

I can understand where the offense comes from as some people did treat that word in the past as if it also means that they were mentally challenged as well. A lot of words that were common in the past has a lot of ugly things attached to it that brings up bad memories for the people who were at the receiving end of them. That being said the world would probably be a better place if people would just stop to think before they opened their mouth. If a person does not want to be called something why does anyone want to make it a point to use that term? To me it is not a big deal to call people by whatever term they want to use. As far as the ban. I would have to see how it was being used before I commented on that. I am sure all of us have terms about our size, our heritage, or whatever we would not want used in reference to us. As for me I just try to make sure that filter between my brain and mouth stays in working order.
