Actually I lost my virginity when I was twenty-one years old, BUT my virginal visit to the sparkling City by the Bay began on June 15th. It was an orgasmic delight for the senses!
I filled my ears with blues at the Boom Boom Room listening to a homegrown band complete with original tunes and unique interpretations of old standards that kept my body swaying for hours. Then I was off to Yoshi's for some great jazz by Eddie Palmieri and The Pan-Caribbean Summit. My taste buds were tantalized by the best sushi, a Spicy Geisha Roll, I've tasted in a long while. My tongue was thrilled by steamed crab, boiled shrimp, and grilled fish! My eyes were filled with wonder at Muir Park gazing at the Redwood forest, The Golden Gate Bridge and the Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams exhibit of "Natural Affinities" at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. My nose was intoxicated by the exotic smells in Chinatown emanating from the shops serving dim sum (dumplings), the bakeries offering Moon Cakes and other sweet concoctions and the soothing aroma of Chinese teas. And my heart was deeply touched by the incredibly friendly and talented people who made my time in this great American city so much fun and very meaningful.
I had dinner with two gay guys from San Francisco at a fabulous restaurant... they were fascinating, funny people. I met an art aficionado in Sausalito... we learned we knew people from opposite ends of the globe and shared a love for Santa Clara pottery. I had authentic Mexican food at a local diner and sat next to two ex-cons discussing the demise of a recently released friend/inmate who was back in the slammer again as an accessory in a manslaughter case... they were very polite and thought I was a hoot for a mature woman from the South!
I took a lot of photos along the way, rode the ferry, skipped Fisherman's Wharf, stayed up late viewing the night lights on the rooftop of the hotel and generally grinning my ass off... so happy knowing I finally lost my virginity in a great town I've longed to visit for over fifty years!
It's good to be back.
