It was on the local news here two nights ago that sex offenders will be given "gold plates" to drive around with on their cars. We already have the red on yellow plates for people who have been caught drinking and driving. Do you think Ohio and some other states have gone too far with the sex offender plates, or not at all? This to me is a hot topic for debate, and I'm sure and emotions run high when sex offenders are mentioned, but is it right to go this far and why? And if you do or don't agree with this, please feel free to also explain why.

Hm. I musta missed this one. 
Anyway...No, I don't agree with the plates. Much as I would deeply and truly love to blow some child molester sex offenders away, we have laws here. And putting plates on someone's car for that particular offense, well...I would think that would be the same as putting a hit contract on someone.
Just my nickel.

No, what if it is the only car in the family and others have to drive it. I can also see how flagging a vehicle like that can lead to vandalism.

sex offenders can include a 19 yr old boy that was seeing a 16 yr old girl (yes i know in some states younger) and they live with stigma the rest of their lives...........sex offenders are not just child molesters..........so no I don't think they should have plates that identify them, but i am against the DUI plates too.........

I think this is a bad idea. If one were a female sex offender with license plates that state her criminal past, I think regular men would assume her to be more promiscuous and may taunt her or give her unwanted attention. I say leave sex offenders alone and monitor the internet to find out where they live.
P.S. I do know a female sex offender and she does have men bothering her when they find out about her past.

This also reminds me of the one episode of George Lopez where they had a female sex offender that moved into their neighborhood. Well, his young son sexually harrassed her in a way of "wanting some". lol It also showed another side of this issue with it being somewhat of a double standard in how a lot of men are more accepting to a woman sex offender than they would a male sex offender. Most women seem to be unchanged regarding their feelings torward male or female sex offender.

I agree with DKW and Bruce, not to mention Dayna, however personally I believe child molesters should be given their own air, the stuff that has no oxygen in it. yeah I know it would do some irreversable damage (death) but hey don't they deserve it???????????????

I agree. There is a big difference between a child molester and a high scool kid an his girlfriend but most the laws treat them the same an thats not right

No special plates. To many problems and variables with that. I like that the police notify neighborhoods they move into here and their pictures and offenses are listed on the internet.
I agree with Slohand; cut their nuts and dick off brand the forehead wit a big "S" and let them drive anywhere the want before dark. I would also add a GPS implant in their ass so we can keep track of them.

Wow... lots of people who just want to holler "Plates, we should just line 'em all up and shoot 'em!!!" who apparently didn't read Ewe's comment. Let me just reiterate it a bit farther down.
Not everyone who is a registered sex offender is a rapist or child molester!!!
Hell, in some states until a few years ago (and I mean like 2004, not 1974), you could be a sex offender for having consensual oral or anal sex with an ADULT!!!
