I've been thinking... about the nasty emails sent to our ladies

One way to help curb the emails that some of these brain stems send, might be to not allow newbies to send emails for maybe 15/30 days after signing up! This may keep a lot of people from wanting to sign up but that's the point! Not a good idea, I know!

Next one might be to assign a 4 letter and/or number codes- like a pin number to each member and to newbies when they sign up so that a member can't be contacted, unless the sender knows the recipients email code! It works with a box popping up from the potential recipient of an email, where you enter that person's "pin" code! Each member has the option of giving their code out to established friends.

The system would know who's code belongs to whom, by looking at the member's username! A sender of course, would need to know the recipients code! It's an inconvenience but so is getting all the nasty emails. And after a while, it would become 2nd nature! This is much better but not the best- I'm working on a better solution! Maybe the MODS could come up with some ideas based on these two ideas or others!

Not a bad idea. Some of the Home Theatre forums I particpate in have some restriction until a certain number of posts.

You're a funny man. About all the moderators usually do is purge blogs and kick off a few people once or twice a year when a particularly venomous flame war erupts.

I can't speak for the ladies, but I tend to suspect that the first email any woman ever got from a member was something crude, rude, and poorly written that was most unappreciated.

When flies and mosquitos are eliminated from the world is about the time I will believe that there will be an elimination of trolls, spammers, prankers, and other undesirables from this site. When that day comes, I will try to get to know Jesus before he imminently returns to walk the earth at the end of days.

I like the code idea. But unfortunately the comments on here are accurate, they don't do anything unless they are really serious otherwise losers like that get to keep doing there thing. But good idea about the code system. :0)

I understand you reasoning, but when you take freedoms away it affects everyone. You have to weed out the bad on your on. I don't take the ridiculous comments that are sent to me personally. I just block and move on. I think that's the way to go, but I have complete respect for you trying to revise the only solution. Good job!

I think that maybe they need to do voice verification of anyone signing up where they call your home and give you a pin number to activate your account. That would take care of a lot of spam and maybe have the under 30 age group and the over 30 age group and you could only sign up for one group and you have to show some sort of proof of age. We did that on a smaller scale on local adult BBS sites back in the 90s. I know this is on a larger scale but it might work to at least help the situation here.

I understand and a code system wouldn't discriminate between good or bad intentions, unless it was done strictly on a known friends basis!

Another way could be to have simple "yes - no" boxes to click on, to accept or not, an email from someone! Only way that could be done, is if you can glance at the incoming email (like you see when the sender's email is grayed out, when you click to reply) before accepting it! If you click on "no", it's automatically deleted!

I wrote this blog to give some starter ideas and hope that others would come up with their own ideas! Then submit several ideas to AMD. However, if the moderators won't accept ideas for improvement, then I'm just pissing in the wind, apparently!

For those who haven't seen it, 3zcumpany posted an idea about this problem, a few blogs down.

And while suggestions/complaints do seem to fall on deaf ears around here, I'd like to toss one out. I'd like to suggest sort of the reverse of what you posted earlier. A simple security code that you have to input before sending a message. (plenty o' fish has this feature) Adding to the work that a person has to do to send a nasty e-mail (a feature of both of our ideas) may decrease the nastiness, it would also kill spam bots dead.

I wonder if it would be useful to stage a bit of a revolt around here. What if we started bombarding the mods with some coordinated complaints? Maybe they would actually take spend some time listening to us if their were enough of complaints. IDK, may just be naiveté on my part. The other side of things, is that more attention from the mods could back-fire... technically the blogs aren't supposed to be being used for discussions and well just about anything we use the blogs for.

Thoughts?

I've tried numerous times to have some reported for abuse here........I even did a blog about it but I have since deleted it. But after reporting this abuse 5 times, nothing was done about it and he's still on this site...probably harassing someone else. Where ARE the mods??

Of course, all this stupidty that we tend to bitch about...............it's like beating a dead horse..........it's not going to stop.....to put it plainly! We've just got to deal, delete and go on!

Like captcha? I like that idea. I'd vote for it. I think it would be a good idea to throw this out to the people in charge. This place needs an overhaul because it feels like no one is really running this site.

Captcha is exactly what I had in mind. As far as nobody running this site, I think it's a bit of a double edged sword. I like that the inmates run the asylum here... for the most part. On the other hand, we do need something more than just dealing, deleting, and driving onward.

I'm all for mass mailing the bear about the recent obnoxiousness and moreover the lack of responsiveness. Or at least doing something to get his attention. His profile page says he was last here 2 weeks ago, but I think he somehow managed to get himself untied and is now at large roaming free in Florida.

I believe we had a code per email on here before a few years back, and that didn't last very long before the site realized that idea bombed. I and everyone else thought that was a lousy idea at that. I like how it is right now.

Who knew?

But the way it is now obviously, it isn't working very well, as the blogs/comments that some ladies have given, suggests- in my observations anyway!

My ideas were just suggestions for discussion!

I totally agree with you dmbchick Unfortunately, it's in the hands of the MODs to make the changes- but like Bruce says, the revenue stream for AMD comes from all the ads you see when you startup AMD. Revenue from the Gold members? Not so much!

On the other hand, revenue from either source, doesn't mean twit, if most of the members are gone!

They should bring back the email code, because maybe most of us "don't like the way things are", i.e chaotic.

Out golfing? Who knows! Websites like this or other match services, usually have moderators to try and keep things civil!

Where the MODS are here- I dunno!
