So I read somebody's blog (can't remember whose of the top of my head, but no offense is intended) with the subject of "Is AMD anti-intellectual", this is I suppose really just a response to that. I didn't just post a reply because:
A) It was a week or so old and...
2) I got the impression that it was coming out of some mini-flamefest that I have no place in and don't want one in.

But the blog did have some parts to it that I did want to mention. I do think that AMD has a bit of an anti-intellectual lean. Firstly, by AMD I mean the Blogs and Fori not the people by any means. And by anti-intellectual, I mean that the more depth you add to your post, the less likely you are to get attention. But I don't think this is a bad thing.

My experience (brief and a year ago) is that jokes get the most responses and views for that matter. The easiest way to get comments is to post an interesting or odd survey. Personally, I don't read most of the joke blogs. Just not my cup of tea. Sometimes the surveys yield interesting answers. I'm kinda 50/50 on them. But if you like reading them, read them and comment on them. If you like writing them, by all means do.

You (the hypothetical person reading this, not the original blogger per se) vote with your comments and kudos and generally giving attention to the blogs you enjoy, and just ignore the ones you don't. This self-regulation keeps the broadcasts down to a minimum. The commenting, I suppose, is more important now that it's the only way for attention whores to keep their blog 'fresh' and on the first page.

The other side of this is that a well-reasoned, well-articulated point doesn't really offer perspective comment-ers much to say, beyond... "yes". I don't know, this is something that I've pondered in the past (because I like to think about useless minutiae). Negative posting will probably grab more attention than positive (the whole high school fight effect, where everybody crowds around and all). But that aside, it takes longer to flame somebody and is more likely to get them to respond than just saying, "good post". I guess in a way you also have to be more creative to agree at length with somebody than to disagree.

What this is all leading up to is:
What blogs do you like to read? Do you like when people blog about their day or some news about them? Do you only read the short joke blogs? (If so how did you make it this far? Do you like to argue about politics? (I actually do but most people, in real life at least, prefer to have people just agree with there politics? Do you like these random surveys?

Moreover, are the blogs that you write similar to the ones you enjoy reading? Personally, I like a wide variety in the blogs that I read. This reminds me, I should practice a little of what I preach and toss a green cookie to the blog about chicken tacos.

Anyway, just some thoughts. More of a comment that got stretched into a blog.

Yep, I know the blog you speak of....it was Luna's and....I know some people won't like this, but I tend to agree that AMD is a bit "anti-intellectual" and that's just my personal observation mostly because of the horrid spelling and/or chat speak I see on here - I have a problem with people that can't take the time to spell check what they write or actually write out complete words...you know like spell out "your" instead of "ur" and know the difference between "your" and "you're"....that's grade school shit.

Anyways...to answer your questions....

What blogs do you like to read? This and that....definitely anything to do with sex. I tend to read blogs from people that comment on my blogs...you know tit for tat I suppose. If they are friends of mine, I will read....may not always comment if I don't have anything to really say.

Do you like when people blog about their day or some news about them? Sometimes....depends. If they are a friend of mine here, I will read. More often than not though....I find it boring.

Do you only read the short joke blogs? No....depends on my mood. Sometimes they get skipped.

Do you like to argue about politics? Nope....I know my opinion about politics and don't really give 2 shits what others opinions are regarding the matter. I usually don't feel like "debating politics".

Do you like these random surveys? No, boring.

Moreover, are the blogs that you write similar to the ones you enjoy reading? Usually, yes.

It's a shame that this blog didn't make it to the 1st page of the blogs (not sure how the hell that happened). Maybe try re-posting it. I would like to see what other people have to say.

This happens on regular MatchDoctor as well. Not only here.

...I've been blogging for years. I've learned something that is so true and you can apply it anywhere you write online. Get serious, get sad...No one really wants to read that.

Talk about a bowel movement, or whether the toilet seat should be up or down. An uproar ensues and chaos follows.

Thanks for giving me something to read that didn't involve sex on my first time here

About that, don't let what you said come back to bite you in the butt. I used to say the same thing and then folks accused me of "wanting attention". Sometimes its worth it to blog here, and sometimes not. I was told that this is a place for people to relax after a hard day out in the world- best not to be serious or else your blog will lag under the detritus that is trite penis jokes.
