Me, personally, I wouldn't move. I just can't right now. When my kids are grown, that will be a different story. I think how much they are willing to pay you would be the most important factor.

Family is hard to move away from. It would have to be one hell of a good job to get me to move.

Well... poisonally, family is hard to move from, which is the only reason I'm still here in Michigan. But I see you're about 30 miles from the N.C. boarder and depending where in N.C. you're talking about, if it's a good paying job and within a ¼ to ¾ (max) of a days drive from home (for the weekends and holidays) for me, I'd lean towards new employment. 'course, the best time to look for another job, (back home) is when you're already employed- I mean when things get better!

But, that;s just me!!

Somnium is is hard to move away from. If I were to consider moving for a job, one of the things I would consider would be how far from my family would I be moving.

That is a tough one especially due to businesses whining about the economy ... I'd be scared to take a new position & get laid off shortly there after because an employer is afraid he is losing too much money due to the economy ... It's happened to me before & it sucks

I personally think it depends on your financial state of affairs.
Here more and more young men are leaving their families and friends behind to join the Military. Not out of wanting to serve *Queen and Country* but, as a means of fully providing for their families and paying off a mortgage. Think you need to follow your heart and conscience on this one.

For a job? I don't know... As you know I'm looking at 800 miles for love and a future with him.. that's going to be difficult enough..
But at the same time, you need to be able to make a living... or you might just end up "living" with the family you are near.

If you want the job and feel it is secure, maybe you can rent a room and keep your house. You could come home evry other week or so and still be close to your Mom and family. NC is nice. I love Wilmington, but other cities there are nice too. Check it out. Many are probably posing rent a room on CL.

It is not so much how far, but rather where. There are a lot of places I don't care too live.

I think if I found the right opportunity, I would move for a job. It would be a little scary moving somewhere you didn't know anyone though... I wouldn't want to leave my daughter or my mom...... they keep me here!
But don't limit yourself Toad.... if you can find a good job, A move might be worth your while... never know!

Well for me and as much as I love to drive, 4 hours is an easy drive (actually 8 RT) but then, I'm not you- maybe you hate to drive, who knows!

In the early 70s I lived on the South East side of MI and transferred to the South West side of MI (4 hour drive). I was divorced with Visitation rights(?) for my daughter was every other weekend at the time before I moved.

I left work every other Friday, drove to see my daughter for the weekend and drove back on Sunday, to be at work for Monday. I did that for about a little over two years, before I ended up moving back!

It really wasn't hard to do- but then I love to drive! Maybe if you visited once every two weeks or so or maybe each week, until you see how the job is working out, might not be so bad! Maybe they have a shop closer you don't know about yet!

It's a tough call, I'm not making lite of it! But usually there's a way to work a problem out, IF you know all the facts and discuss it with your family about it too!

Alex, four hours isn't really all that far. But I know that right now you would constantly be worried about your Mom.
That makes it a tough call.

How sweet is the job sounding?
When do you have to give them an answer?
