Should we keep all restrictions on Cuba, or drop them? posted 4/14/2009 8:16:16 AM | 0 kudos what's this?     report abuse tagged: news, straddle   StraddleMyNose With Fidel Castro's brother being the figure head of Cuba these days, and running things now the last two years, should we lift the embargo against Cuba, or should we keep them all in place? Obama just lifted travel restrictions for relatives of Cubans recently to allow them to go down there to help their relatives out by bringing them money, a ban that's been in place for 5 years by Bush to force change to that country. With this lifted, a lot of Cuban-Americans are not very happy with relaxing any kind of restrictions on the Castro brothers. I'm going to have to agree with a lot of them too. We should keep the whole embargo in place. What's your opinion, should we lift them, or keep them while continuing to force change to communist Cuba? 	Just think you could contemplate this issue, whilst smoking a Havana cigar. I am a brit but think the embargo should remain. We still have an embargo on Argentina. Dating back to when Argentina invaded the Falklands in 1981 ( I think). blondie.

	It's not up to us to force change on anyone. I am sympathetic to the plight of the Cuban Expatriates ... but ... There interest and ours are best served by the people of Cuba NOT being isolate, NOT having only one source of information, NOT living in abject poverty. Our best interest are served when the People of Cuba can see clearly how they fair among the world village. They can judge the Lie's or Truth perfectly well for them selves, thank you very much , when there is open communications beyond there island nation. Having Cuba be a pertisapating member of the moral world community, rather then a rogue nation providing a convenient way station on the underground railroad for the drug lords that flood our schools and neighborhoods with poison. And that's got to be a good thing. With the embargo eased on travel ... families may reconnect, and that's got to be a good thing all by it's self. When the people see there government no longer, nor ever did, serve there best interest they will presume change themselves, without anyone telling them of the need, After all look at the recent American election. And who knows, they may do it without armed insurrection. It could happen ... Think Berlin Wall Tosses a Cpl-o-Lincoln's in the tip jar. Godspeed Master Gry
