I have to agree "grits" just doesn't sound like something you should be eating.
I am not much on oatmeal but have had Apple Cinnamon, that was pretty good. It had caramelized apples in it. Speaking of caramelized apples; when the apples are done you add a little maple syrup to the pan and then some thick sliced bacon, fry it tell it is a little crispy............. need I say more? Can't forget some Sunshine for dessert.
That's it I should spank your sweet ass for making me thinking about food I am starving.

I have never had grits. But i do love oatmeal. Plain oatmeal with raisins, brown sugar, & a little bit of milk is so good & filling. I can never finish a bowl of it.

I like both. I can understand ya not liking grits if you haven't had them made for you the proper way. They can be so decedent. I used to work in a restaurant that served scallops and grits. All buttery and browned, they would just melt in your mouth. Me and my oatmeal...I like brown sugar and butter, but I try to just do the sugar without butter these days.

I have not been around much to read blogs. I need to catch up
I will eat oatmeal once in a while. If I do I have to have a little butter, milk and sugar. Kind of defeats the purpose of eating them to stay healthy. I never knew what grits were until I moved to Ohio. We serve them at work and I have never tried them but they don't look good to me.
Which reminds me. Here in Southern Ohio people call them oats.
Up North it is oatmeal. What is the difference

I liked the movie "My cousin Vinnie" where the big city Vinnie encounters grits in the southern small town resteraunt..... And then later on, he uses his newfound grit knowledge...
Vinny Gambini: Why not? How long was they in the store for? Mr. Tipton: 5 minutes. Vinny Gambini: 5 minutes? How do you know? Did you look at your watch? Mr. Tipton: No. Vinny Gambini: Oh, oh, oh, you tesitfied earlier that you saw the boys go into the store, and you had just begun to cook your breakfast and you were just getting ready to eat when you heard the shot. Mr. Tipton: That's right. Vinny Gambini: So obviously it takes you 5 minutes to cook your breakfast. Mr. Tipton: That's right. Vinny Gambini: That's right, so you knew that. You remember what you had? Mr. Tipton: Eggs and grits. Vinny Gambini: Eggs and grits. I like grits, too. How do you cook your grits? Do you like them regular, creamy or al dente? Mr. Tipton: Just regular I guess. Vinny Gambini: Regular. Instant grits? Mr. Tipton: No self respectin' Southerner uses instant grits. I take pride in my grits. Vinny Gambini: So, Mr. Tipton, how could it take you 5 minutes to cook your grits when it takes the entire grit eating world 20 minutes? Mr. Tipton: I don't know, I'm a fast cook I guess. Vinny Gambini: I'm sorry I was all the way over here I couldn't hear you did you say you were a fast cook, that's it? Mr. Tipton: Yeah. Vinny Gambini: Are we to believe that boiling water soaks into a grit faster in your kitchen than anywhere else on the face of the earth? Mr. Tipton: I don't know. Vinny Gambini: Well, I guess the laws of physics cease to exist on top of your stove. Were these magic grits? Did you buy them from the same guy who sold Jack his beanstalk beans?
