Just started watching some VH-1 and saw where they have the top 100 one hit wonders that started at 4pm. What is your best one hit wonder of all time? You can only pick ONE!
Mine is "Take on Me" by A-ha in 1985.

The Ventures originated the "album concept" where most
songs followed a certain theme.

Although I liked my "head banging" "glam rock" of the 80's...one song I always liked because it had a catchy beat was Blinded Me With Science by Thomas Dolby. I always lmao at the old man yelling "Science!!" in the video.

My "Take on Me" was # 3 on that list. Should have been # 1.
"I Ran" came in at # 2
And the top one was "Come on Eileen" at # 1. I do like that one too!

Play that Funky Music _ Wild Cherry.
I got to know these guys. They were from the Pittsburgh Area, and played a local club at least twice a month .
Bryan Bassett moved on, and is now touring with Foghat. When I had the pleasure of seeing him again last Oct, I reminded him of a blast from his past, mentioning the club he got his start in. It was like old home week after that, because we know a lot of the same local Musicians.

That's tough- I mean really, really tough. I especially have a hard time qualifying a lot of otherwise obvious choices because even if an artist only has one chart-topper, if they have other songs I like I tend not to think of them as a one-hit-wonder. Artists like 13th Floor Elevators or Edwin Starr, for example. If I really had to choose, I'd go with Ben E. King- Stand By Me. Here's a really kick-ass version.

I loved the video for "Come On, Eileen!'
I saw a UK version of "One Hit Wonders" on VH1 Classic a few weeks back. One of the videos was "I Don't Like Mondays" by the Boomtown Rats. I never understood the lyrics and was surprised to learn that the song was about a 16 year girl who, in 1979, shot at a bunch of kids and adults at the elementary school across the street from her house.

I never knew that. It's pretty dark and creepy. lol

Aldo Nova came out w/ a song life is just a fantasy or it was called fantasy which was a catchy little rock tune in it's time but the rest of what he did sucked so I guess that's a one hit wonder ..... I know you said just name one but the artist who sang I smell sex & candy was a one hit thing as well as while the rest of their songs sucked

I am changing my vote. This wasn't truly a one hit wonder as the guy came out with a send single but it bombed and died in a week. Spirit in the Sky Norman Greenbaum is living in northern California and remains as he always has been, a practicing Jew.

Hey, you want 1 hit wonders? Just go back to the '60s. Just about all of those hits were 1 hitters, mainly because they all sucked...with a few notable exceptions. I kinda liked Itchycoo Park by Small Faces.

How about The Waitresses - I Know What Boys Like That's a good one! The lead singer was very HOT and SEXY in that skirt in the video. It's a shame she passed away in 1997 from lung cancer. What was her name again? Patty something.
