that since the taxes have been raised so much on cigarettes that the goverment should send out discount coupons for nicotine gum or patches or other programs to help smokers that want to give up the habit? if they can do it for tv why not do the same for a human life? as a former smoker i know how hard it was to quit even though i did mine cold turkey some people need help in quitting but would never go to a doctor and ask for help.

HA! Us taxpayers are already paying through the ass with so many other things right now. I say the smokers got themselves into the mess their in, so let them find a way to quit on their own.

I am a Smoker...and the Price alone is gonna make me Quit!!!
The cheapest Non-brands here..are $40.00 a carton!!! Name brands..are...$60.00!!!!
I smoke almost 2 cartons a week!!!
So I will be quiting....!!!!
Should the Gov. Help..ppl to quit? I dont think so!!!
What I am wondering is..whats gonna Happen....when Most everyone Quits!!!
They get a bunch of money from us smokers...and they use it to help with health care...cost!!!!
Who's gonna pay the taxes then?

In many areas programs are already subsidized by the govt. either by state or local. Insurances often pay for the patches, gum or medicines. So what would be the difference if Federal taxes went to these programs. We are already paying for rehabs, treatment centers, rent for those out of treatment ect. Seems like any of these are the responsibility of the person who needs them and yet how can we turn out backs on someone in need.
It is really easy for someone to say let them get themselves out of this if they don't have the habit. Not so easy for those to do that have smoked and suddenly are forced to quit.
I am not a smoker and never have been. I feel bad for those that do have the habit. Sadly many years ago doctors use to tell people to start smoking for their nerves, instead of giving them medications.

No, I think they should all quit & make me king.

I think that is a good idea and have long found it not only to be a pisser but also odd that health insurance won't cover prescriptions for smoking sucession products.
