Tonight I sat on my front porch for a little while, the first time in months I have been able to do that in a t-shirt. The tree frogs are out in full voice tonight, the wind is blowing thru the trees, still bare from the winter cold that only now seems to be lifting. It is cooling off from a high in the 70's today, but still it is a nice night so far. We have a double layer of clouds with the lower deck being broken leaving small cracks for the veiled moon to shine thru.
It reminded me of a few nights when I was driving, and would be running long after dark for different reasons. Some nights if I turned the dash lights off, and not much if any other traffic, out on the road the night sky would come alive with stars when it was clear, and if the moon were full, it's silver light would make it possible to see even without head lights. And a full moon in winter with snow on the ground, the sky clear, you can see everything clearly. Sometimes it seems, more so than in full daylight.
I am not a real night person, but I have seen the world in the dark, and there are many things that come out only at night a “normal” daytime person will never see or hear. Like the great owl that lived in one of the hangers I worked in while in the navy. Only at night would you see the majestic bird. Some times flying thru the flood lights on the hanger, sometimes sitting on the concrete among the F-14s parked there.
For some, the night is a dark and mysterious world. But there is no real mystery, it is a lively and often fantastic time. And I don't mean in the big city and the bars and clubs, but in the country, with nature at her best. The world never truly sleeps. But to appreciate it all, you have to use all of your senses. Sight is just barely usable, so hearing, and touch become your main gateway to this world. Depending on the time of year, smell also comes into play when night blooming flowers open up and spread their delicate perfume across the yards and fields.
Yes, night time can be a wonderful time, be it alone or sharing it with someone.

It's a whole different world at nite. I think sometimes we should set out alarms for 3am and go take a walk outside......you will see the world in a whole new light (or so to speak)

Nighttime can either be comfort to yourself or loneliness for someone else.

Excluding birds, there is much more activity with the wildlife from dusk till dawn, especially at those two points.
