As most of you know, it gets a mite chilly up here in MN. With all the chemicals ( mainly salt ) that are put on the roads to keep them clear, our vehicles have a tendency to completely change color after a snow storm or cold weather ( -15 or lower ). The automated car washes up here generally close down when it gets below -5 to -10. Since our lows have been in the -30 to -40 ( thats air temp, not wind chill ) range since Sunday, our vehicles have gotten a bit dirty with everything being done to stop the black ice and the small snow storms we had been getting during the week. Yesterday it finally got up to 0, and the lines at the carwashes were getting long.

I was in Fort Worth, TX a number of years ago in Dec. and tried to get the road grime washed off the buggy after a straight shot down from here. Was told they were shut down as it was too cold. You could imagine my expression, as it was 40 at the time. After a brief discussion, I was asked where I was from, and when I told her, she said "that explains it" and pointed out a do it yourself one down the road, which I headed straight for.

I was just wondering at what temp everyone elses carwashes shut down for the cold. Got mine done last night....was a balmy 5....and now I recognize it again.

Stay warm

Naaaah. I'm lucky enough to have a heated/ac'd garage, but hasn't been cold enough inside to turn on the heater yet. Coldest it has gotten inside has been 10. I always put Armorall on the door seals in the late fall, so have no problems of them freezing shut. WD40 works well too. I also spray WD40 on my hinges, door latch mechanisms, and inside the key holes. Just things I learned growing up on a farm, where you have to make sure everything works regardless of the elements.

I know I have said that ours don't shut down, but actually I'm not sure about the auto washes. I always use the do it your self ones...

Then you have to be able to get into them with the ice buid up all over and the wand sometimes stuck in the holders.

And if they aren't frozen I spend the whole time hoping that I don't fall on my..... well you get the point..

Stay warm
I'm would help if the weather would cooperate.
You do realize how unfair it is that your weather is a little warmer than ours right now?? I still think we need a pouty emoticon

I have no idea when they shut down here in my area. But I'm one that likes to wash my own car and to remove what I need to with all that salt on it at home.
