I came across an article about the top 10 fitness centers nationwide. The number 4 center excludes men, allowing only women to become members. What would happen if another chain opened excluding women? Would the feminists "allow" that to happen?

Personally I don't really care. I run, showshoe, play basketball and work out on my own, so a fitness center isn't a necessity. But many people like fitness centers and need the peer pressure and personal trainers to actual do aything. It is the principle of the issue.

Do you care? If you belonged to #4 would it bother you if a guy started showing up? If you belong to one of the other 9 do you like having members of the opposite sex around when you work out?

What would happen if #4 allowed men...or one of the others excluded women?

I'm with you...personally, I don't care. I workout on my own, so it doesn't matter to me. Although, there are the feminists out there who willl go to the extreme just to make a point. They piss me off, too. Not everybody needs to be included in everything. Just my opinion, for what it's worth!!

Some women are just too self conscious to go to work outs where men work out at the same time.

I do know of a few centers that are just for men....well I don't know if women couldn't join it's just that they don't.

So, a silly question...what is showshoe?

A snowshoe is something you strap to the bottom of your boots or shoes that allows you to walk on top of the snow. Old snowshoes were made out of a wooden frame with leather laces and some looked a little like a giant tennis racket. Trappers and hunters use them regularly. Modern snoes are made of lightweight metal and vinyl. There are even snowshoe races where people run with them atached to their feet. A better workout than cross country skiing.

There are no silly questions...only silly people lol. Thanks for commenting.

I dont have a problem with men being there;my problem is actually getting the nerve to go to a fitness center. :-/

I go to one that accepts both. I prefer it this way. I happen to like the scenery and I ain't talkin' about outside the windows either...

I see no problem in being an all women or all men establishment but you can bet there are women libbers who will scream like banshee indians over it. Someone needs to bitch slap them and get their attention. Not all things have to be of mixed sexes. Geez!

Uh....just my not so humble opinion.....

I think the point of a "women's only" fitness club is so women can; #1 focus on getting fit without feeling self-conscious, #2 have the support of other women with the same goals, and #3 have a place that is focused on the issues only women have regarding fitness and weight loss. It's a good idea...and if there are men who feel that strongly about it, they really need to start a "men's only" fitness club.

A snowshoe is a strap-on? That could be an interesting winter sport...

A lot of double standards today, and this is another one of them. If a center is for men then it should stay that way. Same for the women. But I love the joint ones!
