...to grandma's house we go...
I still haven't gotten my grandma a Christmas gift yet. I was talking with a salesman on what I may get her. The salesman suggested that I could buy her some Preperation H. Man, with all the humor during the holiday season, this is the best time to have one. Anyway, I laughed off his remark and said that I had something more in mind of a combo gift package of Ben-Gay and Icy Hot for my grandma!

All kidding aside, I think she wants some lottery tickets. But I'll probably get her some bath&body works for Christmas.

This may not be PC, but a lot of people I know in the next generation up live in a declining neighborhood and "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas" has a different meaning.

My granny informed me that she wants a whole lot of nothin this year.. she doesn't have room in her little apartment and she doesn't want it. So stop it already. Ok.. stopped it.. so everyone got together to get her a nice little potted tree that she can donate to the assisted living to plant out front in their garden.

My grandma is 78 years old, and she leaves home in the evenings and goes to bingo. She still gets around pretty damn good. Every year the whole family celebrates Thanksgiving and Christmas at her house.

My grandmother asked for a pair of handknit wool mittens, she's getting them too. plus in a week or two a pair of handknit socks too. She just wants things to keep her warm and she has a tiny, tiny apartment too.

A few suggestions from this great grandma...
Stamps Gift certificate to the grocery store Gift certificate to her beauty salon As strange as this sounds, get her things that takes away from her grocery money such as paper towel, toilet paper, shampoo, laundry soap, ect. Pay her subscription to the newspaper Pay her cable for 3 months or 6 or a year, whatever you can afford If you live in a bad weather area, arrange to pay for her sidewalks to be cleaned...or commit to doing it for her for the winter. Find out what she NEEDS but can live without because she can't afford it.
Most of all LISTEN....she may not lean to the practical then she may like..
toiletries perfume a pretty bathrobe or slippers a warm lap robe or bed jacket good smelling candles earrings or necklace pretty floral arrangements
She likes Bingo? Pay for her cards...some places the cards aren't free
Does she like to go out to eat? A gift certificate to her favorite restaruant.
Does she have a hobby? Buy her some supplies.
Just a few thoughts.......

I think the gift card is a good idea, but I would opt for her favorite restaurant. Another idea would be a manicure and pedicure.
