Just to give a little background, a little over 7 years or so ago I walked into a pet store and made the mistake of looking at the puppies. I saw the sign for a Toy Poodle, but didn't see one. My daughter's boyfriend asked me if I wanted to see if they actually had one, so I said yes. Nathan came back with a man who worked for the store and lo and behold they did have a little 3 pound ball of ivory colored fur (Apricot) to those that know dog colors.
He asked me if I wanted to hold him and it was over from there. I had fallen in love with a set of brown eyes and a little wet nose. I called my boyfriend at the time and walked around this store, not putting this puppy down because I just knew he was going home with me If I had to stuff him in my pocket and sneak out the door. Chris finally said yes, and gave me the credit card number. I took my little bundle of fur up to the checkout and let me tell you it was really hard to sign all of the papers while not putting him down. He was and still is the love of my life.
My point now, is that he is sick. We took him to the vet yesterday and they think he may have Cushing's disease, but they aren't really sure. I've spent most of my day crying because it's almost like deja vu. We had another dog Fred, same breed, same size, but a little older. He got sick, no ryhme, no reason. And had to be put to sleep.
The blood tests haven't come back on Sam yet, but he's just not like he used to be. At first we thought it was just a phase. The not eating, sometimes he wouldn't eat a whole lot in one day but make up for it in the next. His appetite is totally gone, except for his absolutly favorite treat Mini Reece's Peanutbutter Cups. And yes before anyone says chocolate isn't good for dogs we already know that. He doesn't get them very often and has been eating them since he was a puppy.
Back to my point once again. I'm asking all of my friends to either say a prayer, light a candle, or do whatever it is you do when someone is ill. I know he's not a person, but he's a part of my family that I really don't want to lose. I love him, he's my baby. I'm not sure how i'll get through losing two babies in one year, so please all the good vibes, feelings, ext.
I'll know more when the rest of the tests oome in, and will of course update anyone that would like to know the outcome.

Of course he's family Belle! And there's nothing wrong in asking friends to pray/light candles for Sam. I'm sending prayers and best wishes for you and Sam. Having 5 dogs of my own, I know I'd be devastated if one of them were to get sick.
Best wishes for you and Sam.

Don't have to ask, it's done.
Hope your little Sam will come around.
When you said Apricot toy poodle you brought back a FLOOD of memories. My best friend growning up in the 60"s has an apricot toy poodle we all decided on Apollo for a name because of the space flights at the time.
I later learned her mother had a grandchild of Apollo. I loved that dog, even when it was fistie. They have something no other dog has, he'll fight his way out of this, I know it.

My favorite dog, a poodle named Baby died of kidney failure. She had no appetite and when she did eat, she puked. We took her to the vet and they told me we could keep her alive a little longer on meds. I didn't think that was fair. I knew when I talked to her and asked her for a kiss and she didn't respond that it was her time to go. It was the HARDEST thing I EVER had to do, but I held her as they put her to sleep. I knew that was the right thing to do. I hope you don't have to do the same. We had 3 generations of poodles from her. They are such wonderful dogs.
I will most definetly keep Sam in my prayers.....let us know the outcome please.

This is why I recomend never getting a puppy from a pet store. You just can't know its breeding history (also puppy mills suck...).
If you ever need another pup I can put you in contact with some breeders, but they will want to check you out first (make sure its a good envirement for the dog).
When I was little my dog * placed at westminster. So I basicaly grew up around this shit.

Is this your way of helping? After I got Sam I was told about puppy mills and what happens there. I had already gotten him, and if I were to get another dog it wouldn't be from a pet store.

Sweetie, I'm hoping he gets all better and the tests come back with good news.
No, he's not human...but there are times pets are better to be around than some humans... and they love unconditionally.

My point now, is that he is sick. We took him to the vet yesterday and they think he may have Cushing's disease, but they aren't really sure. My thoughts are with the little guy. I hope the tests come back with something that can be treated successfully or cured. My best friend's dog Lil' Bit or Bitter (Miss Bitter as I call her) has Cushing's and it's kept under control with some very expensive non-FDA approved meds from overseas. She's >15 years old and I can hardly tell that she's sick when I visit her...and my best friend.

My prayer's are with you..and the little guy that is sick.
I love all animals. And as of right now I don't have any. My heart breaks everytime something's happens to one. I have had my share of heartache this past year with kitten's that kept dying after they were born and had no clue why?
