The last few years this has been the hot topic across the country. This year it's not too bad in regards to employees having to be politically correct by saying "Happy Holidays!". What got me thinking on this was reading some of the blogs over the past few days with people wishing other a happy holiday, or a Merry Christmas. I do tend to pay attention to that especially after last year. I will say that my preference is Merry Christmas and I will say that when leaving a store after the greeter at the door will also say Merry Christmas. What I would like to know from some of you that use the happy holiday greeting is do you do that on purpose because you hate using the word Christmas, or just say it without any cause whatsoever and no big deal to you?
Since Christmas is coming up I thought that I would repost this blog I did back in Dec. 2006.

Look, if they make more money by saying "blarg m maties"... its all about the cash.
They don't say it to piss you off or to avoid lawsuits, becouse no one is suing. They do it becouse that way they only have to make one banner, and don't have to teach employees to say "Merry Christmas" and then teach them to say "Happy New Year"... you'd be surprised.

It should be all about spirit! The season is about giving. I have no reason for saying either...Happy Holiday or Merry Christmas. To me they are interchangable. Hey Kids! Merry Christmas! Peace be with you and yours!

Merry Christmas is what I always say. I could really care less if someone says Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas. I cannot believe anyone would care which one is used either.....if they do, it's time for them to get a life.

A few years ago, day before Christmas Eve, I told a customer to have a Merry Christmas. She looked shocked and asked me if we were allowed to say that instead of Happy Hoilidays.. I told her that it was my belief and no one had ever told me otherwise. She explained to me that she worked in retail for a major department store chain (name withheld here) and they are Only allowed to say Happy Holidays and ONLY if the customer said it first.
They had been sued by a woman who was told Merry Christmas and felt it was interferring on her rights being an atheist. I guess she didn't feel the employee had the same rights to her beliefs....
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

When Thanksgiving is approaching I will say Happy Holidays because I tend to think of Thanksgiving and Christmas together as 'the holidays'. After Thanksgiving its Merry Christmas.

I say Merry Christmas because it is Christmas. When it comes up to the new year, I'll say Happy New Year, because that is what it is.
