Do you do fruitcake or not?

I myself won't touch the stuff. My mom however makes a certain kind of fruitcake that isn't like the "normal" fruitcake and I'll eat that.

Do you like it? Have you recieved a fruitcake and given it away?

Do you still have a fruitcake laying around from previous Christmas'?

No fruitcakes here. I mean not in the house that is. I don't really like the fruit in fruitcake. I'll eat the cake part and throw the fruit away, or if I make one, I make it without the fruit, just the nuts and raisins and such. It's yummy that way.

Funny Christmas and the holidays (any for that matter) can be one of two things, and I'm sure lots of other things aswell. 1. A great time of year with lots of family, love and happiness.

2. A very sad and depressing time of year, when people are lonely, or just strung out from having to do everything themselves. Maxed out because they feel the pressure of getting that perfect gift or gifts for their loved ones. And countless of other reasons why it can be depressing. The sad stories you hear around the holidays just seem to be more magnified.

I personally have a love-hate relationship with this time of year! But I do love fruitcake

I love this Italian's like raisins and oranges and orange is sofa king good..... ........the traditional ones, I can never tell what I am tastes like rhubard........

My mom makes a kick ass fruitcake that will fuck you up.. and hell yeah I eat it.. it's goooooood! Store bought fruitcake? not on a dare.. *remembers being twelve and getting high as hell on the fumes from the pantry at fruitcake makin time*

# 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
# 1 teaspoon mixed spice
# 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
# 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
# 1 1/2 cups butter
# 1 3/4 cups superfine sugar
# 6 eggs
# 1 cup raisins
# 1 cup golden raisins
# 2 cups dried currants
# 1 cup candied cherries
# 3/4 cup slivered almonds
#1 cup dried apricot bits
#1 cup dried cranberries
#1 cup dried apple chunks
#3/4 cup walnuts or pecans

1 cup of hot buttered good scotch

1. Grease an 8 inch square baking dish and line it with parchment paper. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, mixed spice, cinnamon and lemon zest. Stir with a whisk until blended. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing until each one is blended in. Stir in the dry ingredients just until moistened, then fold in the raisins, golden raisins, currants, cherries and almonds.
3. Spoon into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Make a slight impression in the center with the back of a spoon so the cake will turn out level. Cover and leave in a cool place overnight.
4. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Place the cake pan on a baking sheet.
5. Bake for 4 hours in the preheated oven. When the cake is done, a skewer inserted into the center should come out clean. Cool in the pan for 1 hour, then turn out onto a wire rack and remove the paper. When completely cool, poke with a skewer every inch or so, and spoon buttered scotch into the holes. Wrap in waxed paper and store in a cool place until serving. (let it sit at least a week)

She used to make this stuff by the vat.. we spent all summer drying fruits. Mmmm gawd it was good.

I like to eat it if its fresh,but its(the fruit cake) kinda a joke in my family,we have this particular one that has been circulated around(regifted) for about 12 years now,,it seems that about every 3rd year I end up with it,and I think this is the 3rd year,so I am expecting it it sits around in some closet or garage the rest of the year,I bet its hard as a rock,and tastes like crap,,,,,,,maybe they will find it in the future somewhere with a box of twinkies

Nope...pass on the fruitcake. There are so much better things to eat around X-mas (and everyone get your mind out of the gutter - I'm talking about FOOD!!!)
