1 kudogive kudos what's this?

I had to get my drivers license renewed the other day. Good for another four years...Yeah!! Actually the part I'm happy about is I was a bit surprised I passed the vision test with out having to wear my glasses. I wear glasses for reading but not for anything else..but I passed a vision test without them.. Does that make sense to anyone else?

In Ohio, we get our license every 4 years, but license plates are due every year. Griz and I were talking about them one night and he said something about being able to tell how long a car had been sitting at a car lot by the license plates... What? Completely confused me ... I guess I had never considered it being different in other states.
He told me that in Mn the license plates go with the car when it is sold or traded. Here, it is registered to that car under the owners name. But if you sell or trade it you keep the plate. They can be transferred to your next vehicle. Provided it is the same to car...truck to truck..etc.. And you have to get another registration to make it legal. Other wise it's a big fine. License plates expire at midnight on the vehicle owners birthday.
And here license plate fees are based on a flat fee for motorcycles, slightly higher for cars and more expensive one for trucks or SUV's.
My drivers license were $24.00 and my plates were $49.00.

How does this work in your state? (For drivers license and plates) How much are your plates and license?

Do you have personalized plates? And are you an organ donor?
No, not THAT organ...............

Damn, how are you only getting by paying just $24 for the plates or sticker for them? You know I live in Ohio too, but a few years back the standard price was $28.50. After Taft came in the state passed that huge tax on registration fees and we all had to pay an additional $10 on top of that to $38.50. Of course different townships have their own taxes as well, something like $5 more (this was in the $28.50 years ago and currently in the $38.50 now). I have the personal plates and have to pay a total of around $74.50 for my sticker for those plates every year (which I think is a ripoff, and may eventually go back to the standard plate. We should only have to pay the onetime fee for these kind of personal plates and the basic cost for them after that). I will be getting some paperwork in the mail here soon (a few days after Thanksgiving) telling me it's about time to get my sticker for 2010. They send them out about three months prior to your birthday. We have had the current red, white, and blue plates here in Ohio since 2001 (starting with the bicentenial plates, and July 2004 with the update of the same colored plates). I'm getting a little tired of them now and would love to see a change in color plates. But at least they're better than the ugly gold plates we had before that came out in the early summer of 1996.

I don't Shawn..I went in and changed my mistake. I paid that for my DL, not my plates.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I paid that for my DL

Mine expires in Feb. 2011. So I don't have to worry with it until then.

Title, transfer and taxes will cost over 200 there.
And those aren't custom ones.

Uh.....Licenses every 4 years, pay for your tag sticker yearly (about 43.00$ for me....think it depends on the weight of the vehicle) You keep the tag......

I have a CDL, so it's every 4 years, and retesting(written)...along with a physical every year, thank you very much.....would be a good law to apply to everyone...

tags are permanent, issued to the person and vehicle (you remove and destroy them when car sold) with a new sticker each year...fee based on value of vehicle.

Tags for my commercial trailers are permanent, and cost a flat $20.00 per year, renewable in November.

Tags for my trucks are apportioned among 48 states, and based on the estimated miles or actual miles ran in each state....that costs about $1600.00 per vehicle...

...and then there's about 7 to 8 hundred more added for taxes....(roaduse)
