Wow...I actually had a great day! Got a lot done...sitting here writing funny blogs...

So, my son asks if he can go check the mail...he does this alot, the mail box is right around the corner and he likes to drive that little way by himself.

Well tonight he went a little further than he was supposed to. He's ok...don't worry. Just very shaken up. He drove outside the park and down a dirt road...and a deer jumped out in front of him! He slammed on the brakes and the back end swerved and hit a tree. Yes...the car is damaged. Bad. But not so bad that it can't be fixed. And my son is ok. Really...that's the most important thing. I didn't freak out...he came inside crying...this kid who is over 6' tall and tops 200 lbs was crying! I asked 'what's wrong...what's wrong??' He just said "I didn't mean to!" and I knew. I went outside...looked at the damage...the back drivers side door is crunched. But he's ok. And he learned a lesson. I'm not being mean when I tell him to come right back. I'm not being a bitch when I tell him not to drive anyplace else. Now he knows. And he's ok. Thank all the Gods who listen to a mother's prayers...he's ok.

Cars can be fixed or replaced, sometimes children can be fixed if the damage is not to bad, but they can never be replaced. I am very thankful that your son is okay. I'm glad to hear that you handled the situation the way you did. That is a good lesson also for everyone who reads this. Don't go crazy over material things. Remember what is truely important.

It's a terrifying moment when we figure out we can't keep our kids from getting hurt. I'm very thankful he didn't get hurt. I read blogs all the time, and here lately some of them have reminded me of things that happened with my kids (step kids, but i don't clarify that point often they're still mine) . This one reminds me of one of the first time my son took the car out after he turned 16. My (then) husband and I were at the bar throwing darts for a league, and in walks my 16 year old son looking like he saw a ghost, and his buddy trailing behind holding his arm. Aaron says "I wrecked the car", I looked at him and said "No you did not!" He assures me that yes he did and the car is still on the country road on it's side where they had left it. When I realized he was telling me the truth i was all over him, making sure he was alright, no cuts, no bruises, not a mark on the kid. His buddy however had wrenched his shoulder. We ended up going out to check out the car, it had to be pushed back over, as it was sitting on the drivers door. Then we took Mike to the ER and made sure he was ok. Neither one of them were damaged in any way, thank god. The car was his after that night, lol. It was a little smashed up, but he ended up driving it for another year.

Things like this make us realize how our life can totally change in the space of a few seconds. I'm glad everyone is safe.

I'm so glad, not about your car, about your son being ok.

Up here in Wisconsin, deer jump out in front of folks daily. Every morning I drive to work I pass the river, some woods and farmland. Every time I get in my car I get a bit nervous.

Thank God your son was okay.

I've been told that if you swerve to avoid a deer, then hit another car or a tree, your insurance may not pay for the damage. They'd rather you hit the deer. Anyone else hear of that?
