Ok...just to let ya'll know...you do have to be a paying member in order to use the IM feature here. You can send someone your own personal yahoo/msn/aim id if you choose...one of the nicest features about this site is they allow you to share your personal stuff if you want to.

When people say that you need to be a paying member to IM someone, I don't understand that, I have IM ed people and am not a paying memeber. I also have received IM's from people that are not paying members............Zena

I have never encountered a problem using the IM here and I'm not a paying member. Oops. Maybe I shouldn't have said that!

My understanding is that you can only initiate IMs (now) if you are a paying member, but anyone with chat turned on can receive IMs.

Ok...since I've never used the im feature..I wasn't sure.
If you look at the gold membership sign-up page...im's is a feature listed as being for gold members.
Sooooo....maybe this is something they are going to do in the future? They already made profile views for paying members only. I guess just enjoy it while you can! But if you're going to ask people to im you...at least turn it on!
