A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat and was for the distribution of all wealth. She felt so deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, and she expressed her feelings openly.
One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his oppostion to higher taxes & welfare programs. In the middle of her heartfelt diatribe based upon the lectures she had from her far left professors at her school, he stopped her and asked her point blank, how she was doing in school. She answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain. That she had to study all the time, never had time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of spending all her time studying. That she was taking a more difficult curriculum. Her father listened and then asked her, "How is your friend Mary." She replied, "Mary is barely getting by", she continued, "all she has is barely a 2.0 GPA" adding, "and all she takes are easy classes and she never studies." But to explain further she continued emotionally, "But Mary is so popular on campus, college for her is a blast, she goes to all the parties all the time and very often doesn't even show up for classes because she is too hung over." Her father then asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your 4.0 GPA and give it to her friend who only had a 2.0." He continued, "That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair equal distribution of GPA." The daughter visibly shocked by the father's suggestion angrily fired back, "That would be fair! I worked really hard for mine, I did without and Mary has done little or nothing, she played while I worked real hard!" The father slowly smiled and said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

I wanted to share this story I got back a few years ago because it speaks volumes. I plan on sharing this with Natasha because she thinks of herself as a Democrat.

This is a classic repost I did back around the election in Nov. 2006. Since we have another election coming up I thought that I would repost it again.

Good one. I've used this one before, and it's great. Though I'm afraid there are millions out there that will have to learn the hard way. Could be a painful few years for many democrats if they're successful.

That is an old classic joke. Good repost!

Btw, my daughter may be a dem (for now), but I know she's not voting for Obama!

Explain this to me as it does make sense. How is it she will be voting democratic, but not vote for Obama? I don't see her picking and choosing candidates. I don't agree with your political philosophy, but you are aware and pay attention. Many people, especially younger ones do not. They are caught up in the conceptual sloganeering by both parties. Many months ago, perhaps over a year ago, I recall you writing that George W. Bush would go down as one of the greatest American presidents. Do you stand by that statement today, why or why not?

I'm not sure I wrote that. I mean, it's quite possible I did some time ago, but I truly don't recall having done so. Would I stand by that statement today you ask? Yes and no. I think history will be a little more kind to him than what the media has been to him today, but I wouldn't put him in the top bracket of the best U.S. Presidents that we have ever had.

How is it she will be voting democratic, but not vote for Obama?

I didn't say she was voting. I know a lot of dems out there that won't be voting this year because of Obama being black. My cousin Jodie who is 28 years old (she's the black sheep in the family when it comes to politics) has stated that she's not voting for no black man. That's funny because when she was a little younger she went and hungout with some blacks in Chillicothe, Ohio (where she lives). I hate the fact that she feels that way about blacks. As for my daughter goes, she never answered why she wasn't voting for Obama. But that's okay with me, one less vote for him. Two years ago our Secretary of State was running for Governor of Ohio. He's a black man, but he's also a Republican. His name is Keneth Blackwell. He was very good in the role as Secretary of State here in Ohio for the past 8 years, and I was pulling for him to win. I had a sign for him and was disappointed that he didn't win. I felt that he could have done a great job for Ohio as Governor.

I think that you make excellent points. My video link supports your perspective in a previous comment. There are a lot of ignorant people out there on all sides. Sadly, in many battleground states, the issue of who we choose to be our leader of the free world may well be decided by uninformed people voting for either candidate. But you as a republican, and myself as a democrat, have not control or even reach to these people. In many cases, they may vote for the ticket we support, but do so for the wrong reason.
