I'm developing a greater appreciation for the effects of adrenaline. This noon I had the shit scared out of me and it took probably 20 minutes for the adrenaline rush to subside and my heart rate to return to normal.
I live in the country and was burning trash. Had gotten the fire going and left it alone for awhile, returning to add the final bag of rubbish and some leftover newspapers. I was standing by the burn barrel wadding up newspapers and getting ready to place the last bag in the 50 gallon drum when an aerosol shaving cream can exploded. The explosion made my ears ring and I had soot and burned foam from the can all over my chest and face. It felt like I had been shot in the chest, and the force made me step backwards. I immediately raised my shirt, fully expecting to find blood. Fortunately I was wearing a shirt and the bruise on my chest was only a crescent, so it was probably the base of the can that hit me nearly flush in the chest, almost exactly in the center of my chest. I guess I was lucky.
Guess I'll stand back from the fire next time I do that.

i really never thought about it as potential entertainment, but Ihave to admit, it was quite an adrenaline rush. Even after I realized I wasn't headed for the hospital.

This is why I don't mess with fire.
I had neighbors burning trash in a 50 gallon drum. The guy had a can of gas and he was adding more to the fire when the can caught on fire. He threw it and it hit my 4 year old cousin. It burned 95% of her body. They brought her to Shriners. Unfortunately, they couldn't save her. She is one of God's angels now. This is why I stay away from fire. It is uncontrollable.

I am not thinking it was funny. I read 2 blogs by Ynot who plays with fire on a regular basis, and uses gas as a flame starter. He made it sound funny so I expressed myself in a laughing manner. I am very happy you are not hurt. Sunshine's comment isn't one we want friend or family to have to go through. Please be careful everyone with fires.

Thanks to all who expressed a concern about my welfare. I'm fne...and will definitely be more careful next time. I'll make sure I put the aeresol cans in last just before I walk away.
I'm surprised no one caught the adrenaline reference, though. Even rnj talked about the fun, but not the adrenaline rush. Guess that's a blog topic for another time.

I caught the adrenaline rush....just haven't had time to comment til now. I've experienced more than my share of them in the years I've been walking....mostly with dogs. I rounded a corner one night and this huge dog rushed the fence barking and growling and I know he could clear that fence if he really wanted to. My heart slammed against my ribcage, I literally felt the blood drain from my head and there was an instant roaring in my ears. I couldn't have ran if I wanted to...my knees felt so weak I could hardly keep walking. It took several blocks for me to return to normal. Uh....I don't walk down that street anymore.....
Glad you're ok....
