Well, we are home just in time to batten down the hatches in preperation for Hurricane Ike. We are about as ready as we can be.... batteries, water, food, generator, and BBQ Grills on stand by. It is no longer a laughing matter. It is real and it is coming right at us. Galveston & Houston will be the worst hit but even here in Tyler, we have an Inland Hurricane Warning issued for us. We will be hit with strong winds (65mph), heavy rain (up to 10 inches), and the extreme possibility of Tornados surrounding us. We aren't expecting it to hit us until 3 am. but we are as prepared as we can get. The only thing we can do now is gather in the "Big Room" and hope for the best. Ike is strong, he is huge, and he is deadly having already killed 128 people at last count. Hurricane Ike is Texas's version of Hurricane Katrina. The stores here in Tyler are packed, the traffic is horrible, the Cops are thick. People that are fleeing the Hurricane from further south have come up here.... Well, keep your fingers crossed for us. Hopefully we won't sustain too much damage and hopefully we will all make it thru this.

We're between Houston and Galveston, and we've boarded up the house. We're riding it out. We started getting supplies Wednesday night and finished early yesterday. There is a curfew here starting at 5 p.m.

I brought my Mom up here to Dallas with me on Wednesday that was when Ike was headed for Corpus, Don't care Ike is so big that all the Texas coast is going to feel it.. I will keep you in my prayers for all of you on the coast and a morbid thing but it is being said that if your real close to the coast to write your social security number and name on your arms with a sharpie....

Just wanted to take a minute to Thank everyone for their comments and Prayers. It makes me feel bad that we are probably going to suffer the least from this monster of a storm. There are so many that are losing everything and will have nothing left to go back to. This is our first Hurricane and we have made all the peperations that we can. We were in Gasp'e, Quebec (Northeast Quebec) when we first heard about Ike coming our way and were fortunate enough to be scheduled for home time before he hit. So, we made it home before Ike moved in and that's why we're Thankful. We can be here so that Keith's Momma doesn't have to face this alone. Thanks Everyone. Send Prayers out for those who are losing eveything.

You folks and I are almost 300 miles from the coast. It is horrible for folks down there. But for us in north Texas, it will be like Rita, lots of much needed rain with tornado potential. Respectfully, you are being overly melodramatic about it concerning what Tyler can expect.

I have friends, counting kids about 30 people, down there near Galveston. Generally with my group, the women and children left. The biggest problem for most people will be the power outage. That could last for a week or more with everything in the fridge needing to be written off. Downed tree limbs will be another concern along with impassable roads. Much of the area between Houston and Galveston does not drain well and many roads will be cut off. My prayers and affirmations have been with everybody facing Ike.
