All I can say is, it's been a loooonnnnggg summer!!
Imagine being 15 (almost 16) and not being able to do anything but sit around the house playing video games and watch tv? Not wanting friends over because you have a metal device bolted to your head that looks like something from a Saw movie. And, being in pain most of the time for one reason or another.
Finally, today it's over. Well...mostly. We still have one more trip to the hospital to remove the clip that are embedded in the bones, which will require surgery. But the distractor is GONE!! Actually, it's being sterelized and prepped to be used on a child in Africa as we speak. I know...right? Canu's son asked the Doc "What THAT kid do to you?"
We do have another issue to work out, and I'm taking him back to the eye doctor tomorrow. It seems that since he can't close his eyes all the way, one of them dried out to the point it developed small perforations on the cornea. So, they put super-glue on his eye, stuck a contact lense on it and sent him home with drops. We go back tomorrow so I can ask them to put a guard over his eye as well.
Anyways, the halo is off, he looks great!! Now all he's worried about is the fact that his hair hasn't grown back to what it was before surgery! (I actually found out that he didn't need to cut his hair!)
Thanks again to everyone for all the thoughts and prayers.

Great news! I'm sure he's aching to get out of the house and do stuff with his friends again.

Canu's son asked the Doc "What THAT kid do to you?"
What a wonderful sense of humor despite all he's been through. I can just see him in the near future trying to freak some girl out with the superglued eyeball story. Kid's a champion.

Yay for the kiddo! I bet he feels a huge sense of relief not having that metal monster pinned to his head anymore. Big huggles all round your house from my house! I'ma keep him on the prayer team listing though for a while.

Well it's good that this kid can start getting his life back after getting that thing removed. Sitting around the house all day everyday can drive a kid insane (believe me, I know).
