Let's face it: Even at a national political convention, football -- and particularly Ohio State football -- is never far from the minds of Buckeye delegates.
So football loyalties reared their heads when Hall of Fame wide receiver Lynn Swann, a Republican who tried to become governor of Pennsylvania, came to the Ohio delegation breakfast yesterday to pump up the troops and tout the GOP ticket.
When Swann, who helped the Pittsburgh Steelers win four Super Bowls, was introduced, he joked, "This is a first -- a standing 'O' in Ohio."
Sure enough, someone piped up: "Go Browns."
That caused Swann to respond that he didn't wear a tie because he was "afraid you might hang me with it."
But it wasn't until Swann mentioned the upcoming USC-Ohio State game, and proclaimed that he would be rooting for his alma mater in southern California, that the crowd of delegates and other Ohio GOP party officials really got heated.
"O-H! I-O!" the crowd roared, repeating the chant several times as Swann smiled. *******************************
I got this from the Columbus Dispatch today. I wanted to share it with some of you that's into politics and football, and it's meant as light hearted humor.
