I was talking to my son today as I am going down to his house for dinner tonight and he likes to let me know where the road construction is.........well cause he knows if i have to take a detour I am going to get lost and he will have to come find me...........
We were talking about the Army and as he is an army recruiter he was telling me about a few of the ppl that have enlisted lately....one is a doctor who apparently will automatically be an officer. I asked him if there was an age limit and he said not really for occupations that get officer status right away but there is an age requirement otherwise.
So here is my scenerio...........Althought Army and Army Reserves are not only making but exceeding their goals for recruitments (I believe the other branches are doing the same) but what if they weren't? Alot of countries don't give an option to serve or not to serve in their military....its required.....
So the requirements as they stand right now for Army is you must not have turned 42 before you reach basic training. You must be physically able to. (Theres a mental evaluation too..........but im not touching that one...lol)
So if that became a law here.........and you were under the age of 42 and in physical shape to serve your country.....would you willingly do that? This is for both men and women........If you are over the age of 42 right now..... would you if you met the age and physical requirements?
I would......I have said for a long time that each person should have to do two years in some capacity for thier country. So would you serve our Country if Uncle Sam called you?

Requiring a commitment through the draft is what got us into the Vietnam war protests that so divided this country. It may seem strange to some, but in America there have always been men and women willing to join the military, even, or especially, during wartime. There is no obligation to join the military in this country, or for that matter a police force, but there are always those who, because of their personalities, want to do that. Now, admittedly, some join for the paying job but ,as a rule, volunteers for the military or law enforcement are the type of people who WANT to be in that position. Enlistment by individuals who did not enlist in wartime have timed out so those now serving knew there was a war going on when they enlisted. Also, what causes a person to join law enforcement where they may be in more danger in some areas than in Iraq? A special person, whether it be for excitement, community service, or just plain love of that kind of life. Something Cindy Sheehan would not understand as she dishonored her son through her protests. We may have gotten into Iraq through intelligence errors but the soldiers now serving were well aware of those errors when they enlisted and yet new volunteers show up every day - and God bless them.

As you know when I was younger I was going to enlist...and my "then" husband was Air Force... they told me that since he was already military and there was always that chance......So, I had to give up custofy of my daughter to join. That was the only thing that stopped me. My mother had passed and besides the fact that I couldn't leave her, I had noone that I trusted that much.
So Yes...Hell Yes.
Years ago my daughter was going to join the Marines...although rare for a female at that time...but she marches to a different drum sometimes.. ....We even had it set up that I would have custody of her daughter until she finished her tour..however long she stayed in.....then she met her husband and fell head over heels in love with him....... She was still going to enlist but did some damage to her knees.
We may have gotten into Iraq through intelligence errors but the soldiers now serving were well aware of those errors when they enlisted and yet new volunteers show up every day - and God bless them. Yes, they do and I'm not taking away from their heroism...but some do join because there are no jobs left where they can support their families. I know one man who said would he risk his life to support his family and keep them off of the streets..Yes, he would. and he does, everyday.

You betcha. Tried to enlist many years ago, but they weren taking too many people - Nam just got done, so there were still many in the service. At 42 I was still in great shape, and many of todays younger people have trouble keeping up with me still.
