In the end I chose to ask someone who HAD a good man. I went to my sister Becky to find out how she managed to pick a good one.

Her answer was really quite interesting, and gave me a glimpse into how many woman's minds work. SHE says that women need a man to support them financially, provide good genes for babies, and to scrape the ice and snow off the car.

Sounds like a trophy wife. I hope the guy ditched her and found a woman worthy of him.

Not at all. She was being humorous. Her husband loves her madly...deeply, and they still laugh liike loons together after all these years.

Interesting blog...Short on time for an answer.but did want to at least say, I Don't NEED a man. I Want the man in my life.
There is a big difference between want and need.Sometimes we don't appreciate what we need...we just take it for granted because it's there. And personally I wouldn't want someone to just need me..I would rather they want me, for just me. That would feel more loving, special and personal.

No dsrespect to your Dad but sounds to me like he may have sold you a little short. Yes, that was a compliment.

And I don't know a lot of women in this era who's minds work on this subject quite like your sisters..... just out of curiosity, what does she do in the relationship and what would she do if something ever happened to her husband?

(filling the car with gas, mowing and weed whacking, paying the bills, emptying the mouse traps, spanking small children, driving during rush hour traffic, picking up the carry-out, unplugging the toilet, hooking up electronic equipment, fixing small appliances, putting bikes and cribs together, and magically making the computer work when the screen goes blank.)

Ok, I have a man and I do all these things......I think it's time for an upgrade!!

Having been in relationships with both sexes.. (ladies, no offense meant) there is nothing like a man's arms wrapped around you when you are feeling low.

I can and will do all that other stuff.. usually more other stuff than I probably should.. grew up knowing I couldn't really count on anyone but me to do it... so.. I do it.

But when it's dark and miserable in my mind.. there's nothing like a man's warm strong arms holding me tight.

Hmm I need my man to take care of me.. To wrap is arms around me and pamper me for a change when I get sick and can't do all the things I do when I feel good...

pamper me for a change when I get sick

That is unusual. Every woman I have every known (and that is a lot of them), including my mom, wanted to be left alone when they were sick. Granted, they greatly appreciated the rest of the family being quiet, cooking, cleaning, going laundry, etc.

Damn! That was supposed to be "doing laundry" not "going laundry".

I will completely agree with that. Do I need that or do I want that? I know I want it..not so sure about need.....but I sure do like it.

And WOW, I've always wanted to be left alone when I'm not feeling well...but this summer when I was in Mn and I was sick one morning Griz just seemed to know exactly what to do and pampered me leaving me my space.....It was very nice, and appreciated. I may now have a different outlook on that scenerio.

What I NEED is a man with a sense of humor, patience, honor, and frankly.....fast reflexes. A man that can move like the wind when I have done something stupid once again. Who can still love me even knowing that I will probably do it again, but really...I don't mean any harm. And I think that was what my dad was hoping for. Someone who would spend allot of time sighing deeply and popping aspirin, but hopefully, in the end, wouldn't trade me for anything.

What am I "chopped liver?"
