Boy, you hit on one of my pet peeves!
The storm before Fay, tropical storm Eduoard, had winds of 40 miles-per hour... 40 mph!!!...hell, when they played the British Open Golf Tournament, winds were gusting there at 40 mph...and they were covering this like it was the end of the world.
On the Weather Channel they had a reporter, with a poncho on, and all kind of rain gear, and the sun was shining in the background.
They do it for ratings, and it's funny, to a certain extent, but it also creates a major problem that became evident here in Louisiana.
The problem is that it's like the boy that cried wolf. If you keep telling people how bad a storm is going to be for every one that developes and nothing happens, then people will stop paying attention. Then, when a bad one does comes along, it turns out to be disasterous.
That was one of the problems with hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. For years, forecasters told all the people in New Orleans how bad every storm was going to be. Well, none turned out to be anywhere near as serious as was predicted, so when Katrina came people took it lightly, and that turned out to be a tragic mistake.
I've been through a few hurricanes. None of them are fun, and a couple can be deadly, so they are to be taken seriously, but a lot of these "experts" might be causing more harm in the long run than they could ever imagine.

meteorologists are only accurate to about 12 hours....if they are any good. Wasn't there a Meteorologist in Florida that got fired for being wrong more than half the time?

Well I guess it's good for the economy. Here in Indiana during the winter they warn of blizzard conditions....or just a heavy snow storm and ya can't find a parking spot at any grocery store in town....then we get 2 inches of snow...geez!

I saw on the news that some places have received about 25 inches of rainfall. About to break some records down there it looks like.
Btw, throw some of that up north to us. Right now we're having a dry spell where the grass is starting to turn brown.
