As many of you know, the phone books will be arriving in the next few weeks to many of you whether it's laying out in your yard or your front porch. Has anyone noticed that many phone books such as the yellow pages aren't picked up off the sidewalks and yards like they once were? For one, there are so many yellow pages books with different phone books competing with one another it seems. Then there's Generation Y that tends to want to look up phone numbers off the internet and will just throw their phone books away. Personally, I think that's fucked up to throw a new phone book away and to soley just depend on the internet for the purpose for addresses and phone numbers. Sure, I'm somewhat of a traditionist, and this is another thing falling by the waistside because many Generation Y people only want to use their cell phones, internets, and Ipods today. I know many of these younger people watch tv shows off the internet even as well.
My question to all of you is, do you still like getting the paper phone books, or should companies phase this out over time?

Btw, anyone remember that one scene with Steve Martin (in that movie "The Jerk") working at a gas station and they were passing the phone books and he got so excited about his name being in it and thought that he was finally a "somebody"? Well then a sniper randomly picked his name out of that phone book and took some shots with his rifle at him across the highway from the gas station? Funny ass movie!

they should be phased out, like smoking should be phased out, drinking should be phased out, dope should be phased out, candy should be phased out, home mail delivery should be phased out(all that gasoline for postal trucks')waste of trees for the paper of the mail. i visited the west virginia pulp and paper mill when i was 21. the town smelled absolutely unlivable. acrid air. we all got free samples. my aunt lived there, after being discarded by my uncle. he had taken up with another of his proteges. he was m.d. ear nose and throat. lived to 90, happy every second of his life. soon, even human beings will be phased out, the new species? homo computerus. generation z may be the last biological species generation.

I seem to get two smaller ones about every three to four months, and I'msick of it. They should only come out once a year. And I like to keep my name unlisted.

They should only come out once a year. That's how it's always been here in this area.
FunnyWhapper, why didn't you post my comment on your last blog, ya know, the one about the daughters wanting to sleep with their dads? I did post on it asking you what you were smoking when you did that blog. But Zena was right, even if you were just kidding about that that's nothing to kid around with.

I personally like them....ours is pretty thin and carries the surrounding counties. But better yet....our county puts out a FACT BOOK and it has all the businesses and how to contact government agencies ...just about all you need other than individual people.
I don't use Zelda to look anyone up....I'm a "X" generation....give me paper please.

My brother and I have been saving them for years, even pick up old ones from friends. We use them for target practice on our shooting range.

I like my printed phone books. They are small enough here that I keep one in my car and one at the house. Saves me a lot of driving around if I am already out and want to know if a store has something I want before I drive all over the place looking. I can just look up the number while in the car and call ahead.

I live in a large metro area and get a phone book once or twice a month. Some are regular phone books listing residences and businesses. Others are yellow pages. Multiply this by the number of phone companies and surrounding cities, plus coming in different sizes and I get over ran with them.
Additionally, there are other phone books that are available at businesses that cater to groups. I have seen the gay yellow pages, the christian yellow pages, and the muslim yellow pages recently in stands in the foyers of restaurants.
I will go online to find phone numbers, but usually find the phone books to be much more comprehensive. I do keep one of the small ones for my city in the car console. I have had occasion to use it too.

I still think it's nuts to always use the internet to look up a number especially when there's a phone book sitting next to ya.
