Utah is considering the ban. If you have an accident and they think it might be related to you talking on the phone, they can check your cell phone records and if they find you were on the phone at the time of the accident, they can charge you. I think that proving you were testing would be harder because the phone isn't sending a signal until you press send.

I've never understood the whole appeal to texting anyway. Why send a text message on a cell PHONE when you could....... oh, I don't know...... TALK to them????
How about the people that have minid DVD viewers sitting on their dash so they can watch a movie while they drive? I've seen it on the interstate at night.
And what's up with the walkie talkie feature??? I guess the short burst transmissions don't hog so much bandwidth......... but you have to put up with the beep beep.... and people shouting at their phone instead of talking.
And bluetooth's........ hand free is safer for driving....... but sitting around in public it's more of an ego statement........ I remember the first time I saw one....... I didn't actually SEE it........ just this person talking into the air...... and I thought they were schitzophrenic..... or at least delusional.
Isnt' technology fun?!?!?

I'm with Slo... I'd rather hear your voice than read your words.
It's illegal in the state of Washington but not yet in Oregon.. needs to be though .. cuz I almost got run down in a cross walk at a red light by some bimbo typing her little heart out.

I dunno about the Laws here in VA. as far as 'texting' goes. But we need some Cell phone Laws....!!!! I just came back from a Visit with my Mom, who lives about 40 mins away..and Everyone I was following had a damn cell to their heads..and not even driving up to normal speeds, taking longer to take off from Traffic lites, Poking on down the road 10 to 15mph less than the Speed limits, and of course there isnt any passing allowed!! I'm a Patient Man, truely I am, but DAYMN!!! If You cant Drive n talk on the phone, then Plz Pull over so the rest of us can get the Hell up the road!!
he thinks we have snow and cold 365 days of the year Isnt Ohio the same way? just "Casually" asking?
And because I know that WOW is going to ask for proof of this I am including one of the links to verify this.....................
YOU are a Smart lady!!!

Well, now, it's about time that some other states caught up to NYS!
As for me: Last summer, some jerkwater buttwhole crossed the center line while texting. In an effort to avoid him, my first reaction was to pull the car to the left and hit the brake. That was a mistake on my part (yeah, so I became the second jerkwater buttwhole) as if I had just swerved left and kept or increased my speed, he would have missed me entirely. As it was, he bounced off my rear fender and went front end into the next car in line. Three people, including one infant, were injured in the crash. He, of course, was not - at all. His texting, which he freely admitted to the police, caused multiple injures, many thousands of dollars, and more than a few very frazzled nerves!
When I drive, the cell phone is on. I do not use bluetooth. I let it ring. The voice mail takes the message. When I pull over somewhere, I check the messages. I do not use the phone when I am driving. Period. I have turned off texting...it's just another waste of time for me. I don't need texting to be entertained, thank you. I have too many other important things to do.
The long and short of it is that when I drive, I focus on that. Somehow, I just feel safer...and I feel safer because there are so many jerkwater buttwholes who are gonna try to get another piece of my car out there - and this way I can keep my eyes open for them.

I think I've texted twice while driving...just a very short message. I did it the other night going over to Mom's. My girlfriend called me and we hit a dead zone so calling her back wouldn't work so I sent a "call you later" text.
Like you, I don't like texting sittin in the comfort of my home! I don't mind texting with someone who isn't on Verizon like I am and it will cost me peak minutes to call them...I have texting included with my package...but other than that...why text when you can CALL!
One other thing that irritates me....I have X amount of texts then I get charged. Don't ya hate it when someone answers a text saying see ya later with a "k"???
I don't text unless I really need to get a message to someone who I think may be working or otherwise occupied and can't answer their phone. Other than that..I CALL.

Texting is redundant but I guess it's fine for those who like to do that. I don't get why a person would text and run the risk of being misunderstood as opposed to a conversation. I don't have any problem with people talking while driving but I think anyone who texts and drives is just ignorant and has never thought of the consequences of their actions. With all the technology available today maybe they could tie the text option to the GPS and disable it after the phone is travelling at 5 mph, that would eliminate this very dangerous habit. It may be a little inconvenient for someone in the backseat but too bad.

I hate text messaging. I had a block on mine for a long time then took it off. I use about 15-10 text messages a month including incoming.
I am too slow at text messaging anyway. Sitting in one spot.
I watch the young people at work text message all the time. Which is a no no.
.........and anyone that has been here or lives here............knows its only 362 days.......we have to have 1 day for each of spring summer and fall................
Right now I wouldn't mind some of that cooler weather. It is so hot here. I hate it. I had a few things to do this morning and stopped at some yard sales and almost passed out from the heat.

I may be the odd one out here but I like to text. Its sometimes easier to texts and say hey to someone that really you don't want to talk to but have to have some sort of interaction with. (I'm meaning my ex) Also texting is less intrusive. I can text a friend when she is at work but I cant call.

I broke down and got a cellphone with minimum minutes on Wed. The first thing I blocked was texting. It irritates me enough having people send me emails in text shorthand and not typing in spoken english... let alone trying to read crap that isn't important on a tiny screen on my dime.
I have a message on my machine at home to only call my cell phone if it is urgent. I hang up on people that call me to ask "What ya doing?" on my cell.

Several states have passed, and others are considering passing, a law that you will no longer be able to use a cell phone while driving unless you have a "hands free" adapter. I checked on the price and most headsets with a microphone for my cell phone run about $50.00. However, I have a friend that told me of an alternative system that you can get from Office Depot for about $0.08 that works with any cell phone.
Here’s a photo of him using his $0.08 "hands free" adapter.

Just recently a court decided that it is even illegal here to touch your phone if you are using it as a navigator, let alone talk without a hands-free set or texting ... caught talking with the phone to your ear will cost you about €40 (about US$ 60) in fines ... even dialing isnt even if you got some hands-free appliances.
I connect my cell to the radio via bluetooth and let me tell you: Mum just sounds great over all those car speakers

They're considering a similar ban here in Michigan too. Doesn't bother me...I don't attempt to text and drive. I need both hands when I'm texting...and I kinda outgrew the "look ma..no hands" approach to driving a few years ago.
