I hate to bring this up but, some members of Congress want to add a federal increase of 10 cents a gallon tax. They also don't want us to drill in Alaska, off the coast of the US and for oil in the Shale in Colorado. They say it will not produce an immediate relief - well neither will a 10 cents tax increase. Think about it in November when you vote.

Well if it makes ya feel any better we can't get any company to open a refinery up here so we have the most expensive gas. What oil that does get down the pipeline to tankers in Valdez gets taken to the lower 48 for refining and brought back up here again. Greatly inflating the prices here. Fucked up because government red tape and environmentalists stops investors from building.
We now have a new Alaska governor with vision, Sarah Palin. She is getting ready to bid out the Alaska to Lower 48 pipeline project to a Canadien company who would be able to build a spur in Canada to buy some of the oil in transit.
This stops the other bidder some pipline companies from profiteering on it and acting in their own best interests. Canada would have a vested interest in completing the job and it would save thousands of dollars in man hours and tanker transportation and weather holdups thus lowering the cost of us oil. Easier to open up ANWR.
The flip side to oil drilling where the food comes from..... and most of Alaska's remote way of making a living... is if there is a spill the damage lasts decades.
Exxon Valdez spill wiped out all the coastal livings of a great many here 20 years ago. The crab was all killed as the oil stopped them breathing. They cleaned the beaches but if you dig a few feet.. even here on Kodiak the oil still oozes in places. Twenty years later there are finally signs that the crab may be returning once again to local waters. We are ever hopeful. Everything comes at a price.
I would like to see the government seriously invest in alternative energy to oil for home heating and electricity generation. This would reduce the overall demand to just for automobiles and thus reduce oil consumption wholesale.
I started walking more and riding my bike. I am lucky I can still afford to drive if I want. My winter heating bill will be something else. I am adding another window on the sunny side of the house to let in more light and heat and upgrading my insulation too.

I'm with ya...!!! The price of Gas is Killing this country!
On the brighter side.. the price of reg. gas here dropped 15 cents in the past 2 weeks!!! 
I guess I should be happy about that.. hell it might go up next week!
Who knows anymore!!!

Prices went down here by .14 cents for 3 days but now has jumped back up .12 cents.
It's sad when we are happy when gas drops beneath $4. a gallon.

Oh, gawd! I'm scared!! Like Straddle, I too like the smell of gasoline (wait! I bet he means gas...as in intestinal gas, farting, etc....knowing him, this must be it!). I swear, that has to be all I have in common with him (okay, besides AMD and great hair that is).
