For the past 10-15 years we have heard of this practice called "police profiling". Some argue that profiling saves a lot of cops lives. Others will argue that it's wrong and it discrimates against different kids of races and types of people. Do you feel that this practice is right for the police to do, and why? If not, then please state why you feel that it's wrong.

Tough question. Police profiling, or "racial profiling," is based on following trends in crime commission with regard to race, income, gender, regional, etc. IMO, it provides a basis for an investigation, but is by no means conclusive, nor should it be the ONLY clues leading to arrest or conviction. Still, it shouldn't, or CANNOT, be ignored... Again, JMHO...

I have been a victim of profiling and was jailed as result because they were pulling over everyone driving west on a one way east bound street that night at 2:30 AM.

It depends on how reliable it is... o.k. if a muslim man smells like rose water, looks realy at peace with the world and has a one way ticket to somewhere far away and only a backpack... frisk that fucker. If a black man is driving an expensive car, don't assume he stold it- unless his clothes are realy cheap and he's wearing broken sunglasses..come to think of it, anyone with cheap clothes broken glasses driving an expensive car, pull that fucker over.
In short, no profiling doesn't work. Observation works. We need smarter cops.

Police profiling sounds like an excuse to hate on a cop for illegitimate reasons. Who do you think is going to fall victim to police profiling? Its not like a white man could use that excuse. People get stoped by the cops everyday for no reason at all...yeah right! I'm the last person that would defend an officer, but c'mon when is this country going to grow up?

I am all for Police Profiling, but not racial profiling.
To profile : to place into a category based on known conditions or behaviors.
I can not think of a complaint made because a Cop profiled a person as being non-ciminal. How many here have heard a cop say, "I'm letting you off with a warning this time." You were just profiled. But there isn't any complaint about that is there.

It's a fine line, to be sure. IF it wasn't an effective tool, they would not be doing it. PERIOD. Unfortunately, there will be some innocent people who are looked at with suspicion. Where it crosses the line is when they mistreat people, based on the profiling, and they are innocent...... it created quite a stink.
My opinon....... go ahead and profile...... but still treat people with respect until the plates come back as stolen. THEN you can get your nightstick out.
