Your mom's BF sounds like my dad, but my dad is 87 YO.
Most older citizens ( half the baby boomers *people born between 1946-1964* and most of the grand generation *people born between 1928-1946* ) shouldn't own cell phones.
Umm, if you say people over 60 shouldn't own cell phones, and then that half of the boomers fall into that group, then it tends to logically follow that you are submitting that half of the people born between 1946 and 1964 were born between 1946 and 1948.
Now, that is fuzzy math :)
this blog is meant for a little humor and to poke fun with the older generation out there. If by chance you're offended, then I aplogize.
This may be accurate about your mom's BF but has very little validity as a reflection upon an entire generation. But let me check my cell phone's VM, there may be a message explaining why anything in this blog is humorous, beyond the fuzzy math, of course.

Just wait till you hit the big 60 and see how you feel. Hopefully it will be as great as most of us do at this ripe old age.
As of last week I have a new Blackberry PDA and gee...I managed to sync my data base with my Outlook..program all my settings, transfer all my files, sync in my Bluetooth and can even answer it when it rings.
Bautu and I must be the exception.......

I don't think it is their age that is the problem. It is because they were born in Kentucky. I have lived in Kentucky every day of my life, and I can't work a cell phone for shit.
Phones I have had this year...]
Phone number 1....dropped on paved driveway...end of phone one
Phone number 2...lay down in some water...end of phone two
Phone number 3...lost
Phone number 4, dropped into hot tub....end of phone four.
So I stand beside my claim that its not age, but location that determines if one is cell phone savy...
My sister cant work a cell phone either....you should see us trying to talk to each other

Actually, my dad, who is 62, does fine with his cell phone. Has his voice mail set up..doesn't know how to send a text message..but, he's got the very basics of it figured out.
My Mom on the other hand, needs the book, "Computers for Dummies". I had to go over to her house earlier today to help her sign into Pogo so she could play games on it. My sister had stopped by our parents house to run a cleaning program on their computer and forgot to make sure Mom's messenger was set to automatically sign in and that the Pogo account was set up for automatic sign in. And poor Mom was hopelessly lost on how to get it to work.
So...let's not forget some shouldn't be near computers too.

At a very young 57 I still get calls from much younger family members and friends asking help with thier computer problems, and I am in most cases able to do my "tech support" over the phone and in a few minutes.

Well, look at it this way. There were blogs posted earlier lamenting about people not posting blogs because nobody reads or comments on them, et cetera. Well, this one got a lot of reads and comments.
I don't think anybody really got all that pissed off. But it was a surprising faux pas from somebody generally known to be quite considerate of others' feelings and sensitivities. No harm, no foul.
To tell you the truth, I find the failed humor attempt to be quite amusing. I am also still laughing about the futile attempt to worm out of the mathematical miscalculations.
All in all, I am kind of grateful for the grins and giggles.

I am afraid that I driven by conviction to make George W. I can only speak for myself, and speculate others, but I tend to think that this blog provided more interesting entertainment for the idle minds such as myself than many in a long time.
I was riveted, I just could simply not wait to see how others weighed in and I was not disappointed, as it proved to be great entertainment for me. It accomplished its objective for one pre-geriatric, albeit not in the way you intended, Shawn. Humor can be found anywhere. Your inadvertently succeeded. I love it when a plan comes together!!
Though for reasons you sought not to accomplish, the whole gig and an evening's worth of entertainment and engagement is unintentional good fun and worth my kudo.

You know its interesting that you should write a blog about the older generation........cause you know Shawn.........someday there will be a time someone will come along and wonder if you should in your advanced age have this or that.
I remember when there was talk about behind the wheel drivers test having to be redone for anyone over the age of 60.........yet it was the teenagers and young adults who were having the most accidents...........seems our senior citizens are treated shabbily enough without saying they shouldnt be allowed things that is offered to anyone who is old enough to hold it in their hand. Now i realize that you wrote thing tounge in cheek.............but I wonder how you would feel if you were over 60 and someone wrote that........Or someone said that because people in ohio are too stupid they shouldnt be allowed a cell phone.............just because someone is over 60 doesnt mean they cant comprehend the workings of a cell phone doesnt make them incompetent............as my late husband said when I wanted to get him a cell phone ............why would i want one..........I have no interest in having one...............and just out of curiosity........did you know everything about cell phones the first time you got one..........cause i have had my razr for about 4 months and still dont know all it can do..........and really dont care either...........i can make a call and text and thats all i care about and i had my cell service for 3 yrs before i learned how to text..........JMO

Whether or not I could operate a cell phone, and I was over that age, I would most certainly laugh about it with the sense of humor I have. Technology has grown and grown over the years, and a lot of it wasn't available to the older generation at the time. As most of us age we tend to be more content and set in our ways to even care about learning to operate new gadgets these days. I have seen this too many times today. As for me, I hate to text message over the cell phone as younger adults and teens love to do, but I got the phone to talk on. You won't see many people my age texting over a cell phone like you would see the younger generation doing. If people don't care about learning to operate the new gadgets out there, then it's their right.
