Well, I broke down and finally took a vacation. Other than the usual days off from work and extended Family getaways, which I don't consider to be a vacations...after all, does having to put up with the in-laws or even your own siblings 24/7 really count as a vacation? I have never been on a vacation since I was 16 and my parents and took me and my little brother out east on a sight seeing trip. So the Fam and I tightened the belts and clenched our teeth against the gas prices and took a 12 day trip to see some natural wonders of North America. I say "North America" because it included both the US and Canada. First we travelled to Banff, Alberta, because I haven't been there in nearly 18 years. I lived near there for some time but took it for granted and never really saw it. It is a great National Park and probably one of the most, if not the most, popular tourist destination in Canada. This was evident in the fact that I rarely heard anybody speaking English the whole time I was there. You really need to spend at least a week to see everything the park has to offer, but sadly we could only spend a day there. Next stop was Drumheller, Alberta, home to the Royal Tyrell Museum of Paleontology, one of the largest in North America and one of the largest fossil deposits ever discovered. My son is really into Dinosaurs so this was alot of fun for him. The next few days were spent visiting my relatives, including my Parents. This is what I call the "un-vacation". We celebrated July 1st (Canada Day) with them and rested up for a few days. Finally we went back to the States and into Yellowstone for the remainder of the trip. If you have never been to Yellowstone, I highly recommend it. Even though geysers and hot springs weren't as spectacular as I remember from 22 years ago, it was still really cool. We saw lots of Bison, and Elk, even saw a couple of bears and a wolf and some Bald eagles. We stayed over the 4th in West Yellowstone, where they had a little parade (emphasis on "little") and a couple of pretty good fireworks displays. Yellowstone is another place where English or an American Accent was hard to come by. All in all the trip was fun, but now I'm going to spend the next 3 to 5 years trying to pay it off.
