A few days back a Houston Astros baseball player (Shawn Chacon) attacked his own general manager in the locker room after being told that the general manager wanted to see him in his office. The players refused to listen to the manager and coached so the general manager when to the locker room to ask him to his office. The player refused and told the g.m. that anything he had to say he could say it in front of everyone. The g.m wanted to talk with him about reports in the media about the player asking for a trade since being demoted to the bullpen where he had been struggling really bad. The g.m. said that he did not raise his voice to the player and the player bemaed so heated that he started cursing in his chair and got up and shoved the g.m. to the floor. The g.m. went to get up and the player shoved him down again. The players and coaches rushed to break up the fight. The team released the player and terminated his contract for the rest of his one year remaining which is in the amount of over $900,000. The owner of the Astros said that in all of his years of employing people, this is the first he has saw something like this from one of his employees, and that he is disgusted by the players violent behavior. The commissioner of baseball totally agreed with the handling of this players release. Now the head of the players union is going to pursue appropriate relief on this player's behalf. The the Astros violated the "Basic Agreement". The Astros say Chacon violated a provision in the uniform playercontract stating the player may be terminated if he shall "fail", refuse, or neglect to conform his personal conduct to the standards of good citizenship and good sportmanship or to keep himself in firstclass physical condition or to obey to the club's training rules.

The players union is a joke in my opinion. They don't seem to care what the player does, as long has he gets his pay.

Oh, so you're on the managers side. I think the manager instigated the whole thing. A player would never throw his manager to the gound unless he deserved it. Damn, I can't keep a straight face. The MLB player union is one of the strongest unions in the U.S. some of the rules are rediculous.

It's the general manager, not manager that he assulted. The player should be suspened for a full year!

I don't follow baseball but I read the news report and it seems to me that the guy's career was going down in flames and he could not handle it and needed to blame everyone else for his failures. He is a loser. I would not want him on my team or to have my back in a fight.

we need more guns in the locker rooms

The union thing is simply part of due process, sort of like a trial for somebody.

They don't seem to care what the player does, as long has he gets his pay.

I fail understand how you reach some of your conclusions my friend.

Here is some more on it.

Now while you did post "Some Friday Laughs!", I did get a laugh when I noticed the offending player's first name is Shawn.

I think the players Union should be sued by the american civil libertys Union, and that the president of the us,should bring it to the attention of the people at the state of the Union address; if that doesn't work then the fans of the sport should form a Union and they should all strike, then the owners will have a grievence and they can take that to the...........fuck i ran out of unions

I'm not bitching about all unions, just some unions give the rest a bad name. Some even protect lazy ass, always late, half assing workers on the job.

I did get a laugh when I noticed the offending player's first name is Shawn.

Yeah, he gives people whose names are "Shawn" a bad name simply because of his first name, and the prick and loser that he is. I really can't believe some people are actually protecting these kinds of unions that want to shit on their employers when given a chance.
