do you ever experience situations where you are engaged in conversation with a friend and then out of the blue they get a text message. then they proceed to text back as if nothing has happened and continue your conversation until once again they get another text message,to which they feviously start thumping away sending text messages back and forth while you try to keep talking to them. is it just me or is it a new form of being snubbed, sneaking into our modern life-styles. do you think of it as bad manners ,or totally acceptable ?

Yeah, that's kind of rude. I can see a quick message or two to say "I'm busy" or "call you later" or something, but to carry on 2 different conversations is pushing the limit of common courtesy.
Oh, and for the record, I wasn't texting someone else...I was playing...with myself.

It's about the same as the "call waiting" thing.

I still don't understand the concept of texting. You have phone in your hand, just call the person. If they don't answer then leave a verbal message.

It's rude. I've been known to say "see ya later" and walk off when that happens. I have more to do in my life than wait around for someone to finish text messaging when they were talking to me.

sometimes it irritates me sometimes it dont and sometimes i will get a text and take a few minutes to............ignore it lol My daughter and i do that to each other occassionally but if we are having a discussion of importance neither one of us touch our cell phones.........but if we are just BSing neither of us care........but i have found that cell phones have allowed people to be rude and get ruder.........do you remember times in the grocery store when someone was taking up the whole aisle and you could say excuse me and they moved.......now they have their cell phone pressed to their ear and no matter how many times you say excuse me they wont hear you or ignore you cause they are talking on their cell..........and it happens everywhere.............

usually I will read it to whoever i'm talking to (usually a joke) then ignore it till i'm off the phone. IF its a private message I ask to hold on read it then will reply later. I will NOT text while talking

It's rude. It seems cell phones are first now. It's not uncommon for them to be around or in your pocket. Remember when we had beepers? Remember when your job said you couldn't bring them to work? But, out of nowhere we are now able to bring our "distracting" phones to work and it's not seen as odd. It's normal. Strange.

You have phone in your hand, just call the person. If they don't answer then leave a verbal message. Okay, here is where I'm a bit different - I'm all for texting...If I can't answer my phone - or it's not the right time/place to use it - it's nice to pick it up and know why someone was trying to reach me without having to call in and press a bunch of numbers; I prefer text messages to voicemail - especially with the crappy voicemail I have. BUT, if you want to use texting for talking - as opposed to just sending a quick message - it can get really old, really fast. I'd rather turn on the bluetooth and talk hands-free.
