IF you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!>>>>When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious>>diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with>>walking twenty-five miles>>to school every morning .. uphill BOTH ways ....>>through year 'round blizzards. Carrying their younger siblings on their>>backs ... to their one-room schoolhouse, where they maintained a>>Straight-A average, despite their full-time, after-school job at the local>>textile mill ... where they worked for 35 cents an hour just to help keep>>their family from starving to death! And I remember promising myself that>>when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of>>crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got>>it!>>>>>>>> But now that...>>>>>>>> I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around>>and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to>>my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids>>today you don't know how good you've got it! I mean, when I was a kid we>>didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to>>the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!>>>> There was no email! We had to actually write somebody a letter ....>>with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it>>in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!>>>> There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had>>to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you>>had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually>>talk over the beginning and messed it all up!>>>>>> We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the>>phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it! And we>>didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no>>idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your>>bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You>>had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!>>>> We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with>>high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like>>"Space Invaders" and "Asteroids" and the graphics sucked ! Your guy was>>a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were>>no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you>>could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster>>and faster until you died! .... Just like>>LIFE!>>>> When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium>>seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old>>broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just>>screwed!>>>> Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15>>channels and there was no onscreen menu and no remote control! You had to>>use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were>>screwed when it came to>>channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to>>change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only>>get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to>>wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little bastards!>>>>And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up ...>>we had to use the stove or go build a frigging fire .. imagine that! If>>we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid JiffyPop thing and>>shake it over the stove forever like an idiot. That's exactly what I'm>>talking>>about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled.>>>>You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!

Damn! You had in made in the 80's Try growing up in the 50's Computers - don't make me laugh. Our adding machines were punch the numbers in and pull the level. Cable TV - try three stations and rabbit ears. Phone calls - did you ever hear of a party line. We didn't need a TV Guide, we knew by heart what was on at what hour.
Let hear from someone in their 70's or 80's

LOL @ Ynot.... We didn't have Cable tv, just an antenna with 3 channels. We had to read books and use our imagination, build cardboard box starships or racecars or swing on grapevines & stuff. Our "4 wheeler" was an old red belly ford tractor usualy with a bush hog or plow attached. Nobody had a pool in their yard. We dammed up the creek with rocks & sticks to make swimming holes that froze your balls off.
Man those days were Fun!

Go back a little farther....late 40's and very early 50's...ya made the trek to the outhouse no matter what the weather....'cept the little ones got to use the chamber pot...but the adult had to eventually empty it!
TV? Nope! We listened to RADIO...Lone Ranger, Fibber McGee 'n Molly, Inner Sanctum...along with music too.
Many didn't have indoor plumbing so it was Saturday night baths in the old galvanized tub in the middle of the kitchen floor....cleanest kid in first. Older kids got to take a smaller tub of water to their bedroom where they had privacy and just wash everything....no climbing into a tub anymore as they'd outgrown it.
Dishes were done in heated water in dishpans...one for wash, one for rinse. If you wanted to call someone you turned the crank on the phone and the operator would say...number please?
They were still the best years ever where the only limit was one's imagination and it was safe to play on the playground after dark and run the streets between friends houses after dark and catching lightening bugs was a big deal....

Hey, wait a minute..I really Did walk over a mile to school in 3rd grade...I'm thinking that took me long enough, 25 miles I would have started in June to be there in Sept...And it was uphill both ways..It was like we lived at the top of a U, (maybe not quite that steep, lol) ....it was also down hill going each way before the hill...lol....At least I got a running start, run down the hill before I walked up the hill....And I did have an A average......so sue me.. And we all had before And after school jobs, they were just called chores, and we got paid for them through a roof over our heads and food in our stomach.. Although it was cooked at home and not always what we wanted.. We ate it or we went hungry. On the limited times we had meatloaf and roast nights, I usually went hungry...
Yeap, kids now days have it easy......I wonder who made it that way for them....
Good blog, Y..green cookie for you...No, don't eat it..Y, spit that cookie out, it's only for show that you did a good job on this one..It's actually pretty worthless come to think of it..

Very Well Said, Ynot. I was raised in the early 1960's and I can add that I was raised on a fairly large tobacco farm. No brothers, just my Dad and me as the working males. My Dad played baseball and loved the sport. I was allowed to play high school baseball, but I came home from games or practice and rode a big ole Farmall tractor until 9 or 10 at night. Had to, my Dad couldn't do all the work, even with some hired help.

Ynot, one thing we had that they have, but they don't realize they have it is...Those big ass JVC portable tape deck stereos we used to carry on our shoulders and listen to AC/DC on. They could do it if they chose, but we did do it. We ran the shit out of our casettes. Carrying a glass bottle of Coke in one hand and our boom boxes on the other shoulder and switching every other block because the damn thing was so heavy. Rock on 80's and you too Ynot.
