This was inspired by Irridum..........so blame him

Do you remember when you were younger and things and life seemed so much easier? Children had less but they also wanted less. They didn't set in the house playing on the newest video games or watching TV.........computers were a thing of the future and kids never even knew to hope that someday they would be able to have one in their room.

Do you remember...........

dancing in the rain...........your arms out to the side and twirling around as the gentle rain cascaded down your face........and even when the rain got harder you didn't stop...........and parents didn't care that you were doing it......cause they knew you would dry and sometimes if you were lucky.......mom would put down that iron, or bread bowl...........and come dance with you.

Playing war with the neighbor kids..........your weapons were of sticks or brooms or if you were like me and my brother.........we stole the horses hames from the harnesses that were in the barn.....they made great guns.......well at least until dad caught us......

Playing Cowboys and Indians.........taking turns on which side you were going to be on........which never really mattered because no one ever won.......but you got to have saddles on the horses if you were a cowboy.........

Christmas presents that didn't cost a fortune but were loved in spite of the cost......we didn't have the dolls that could talk and walk, wet and eat......but we had imagination so they did all of that and so much more.

Learning to ice skate on a lake that you had taken time to shovel the snow off and even tho it was rough.......never imagined somewhere there were rinks that they made smooth. so you didn't get caught on a hunk of ice and fall on your butt.......but it didnt matter.......the challenge of those ice pieces and the snow you missed getting off the ice helped you become a better and stronger skater.

We didn't have snowmobiles or ATVs.......but we had horses that were often hooked up to the huge wagon filled with hay.......that all the kids in the neighbor climbed on and off we would go..........no one was ever killed or seriously hurt from falling off or getting pushed off into the snow.......it was part of the fun. And when the ride was over......we all circled around the old barrel stove and drank hot chocolate and thought life couldnt get better than this.

Our neighbors were not neighbors.........we were extended family and all took care of each other.......remember when the kids were safe with the next door neighbor and probably called them aunt or uncle even tho there is no blood ties............

Do you remember the time when if someone said I love you and you just knew they meant it........the word love wasn't thrown around as casually as it is today....and in any way it was said.......you trusted them to mean it......

There are a lot of things that have changed from those simpler times........some for the good and some for the bad.......Progress can be good in many ways.....if it wasn't for the computer I wouldn't have 4 of the best friends I have ever had........yet in other ways things are not so good........its easier for people to pretend to be what they are not.....not just online but offline.........its easier for people to take advantage of others........and its harder to trust because you come in contact with so many untrustworthy people........again both online and offline.....

I am all for the Utopia world of everyone getting along and being nice to each other........where children are safe when they walk out of their homes cause everyone is watching out for them........where we do things together as friends and family instead of figuring out how we can get further ahead and show the world we are better than everyone else....where you never have any secrets cause theres always a friend around to talk to about your problems..........and I love you was said to many because it was from the heart and was meant..........

Maybe its time for all of us to dance in the rain.

There are still people alive today who were around before the invention of TV?

What did you guys do back then while waiting to connect to the internet?

Our internet then was two tin cans with string tied between them: good for about 100feet

I still dance in the rain on occassion..it just seems to wash the worries away. Hopefully creating less wrinkles in the process.. Just now a days it's more of a very slow dance..lol

if it wasn't for the computer I wouldn't have 4 of the best friends I have ever had.....
There's a lot to be said for modern technology and old time values coming together..

Wonderful blog, my friend...kudos and

Oh yeah.....I remember all of that. I remember my parents couldn't keep my sisters and I IN the house. We were always outside, playing, riding bikes, skateboards, roller skating...down at a friends house in the neighborhood. We were always within hollering distance so Mom could call us home for dinner. Rain.....we LOVED playing out in the rain...drove Mom nuts when it would storm though..cause we loved watching the lightning and hearing the thunder. TV? The only shows I remember watching as a kid was The Munsters, Speed Racer, PuffNStuff, The Addams Family, I Dream of Jeanie, Bewitched, M.A.S.H, and The Gong Show. And yes, believe it or not, as a kid, I loved winter. I love the huge snow drifts, making snow angels, riding on the sled and tobaggon, snowball fights, snow forts. And when Dad was feeling "rowdy"..he'd put us kids in the car...go across the street to the church parking lot and do spin outs.

Yeah...I wish today's world was still that way.

Good blog gf. Here's a kudo for you.

Great blog Dayna !!!

Every generation has their own set of memories of what the simple life was. I do wonder though what the 30 something generation will remember when they are 20 years older. Life does seem so much more stressful than it did when I was younger.

What a great blog! I still spend a great deal of time remembering memories from my childhood.... sliding down the stairs in a sleepingbag with my little brother stuffed in beside me.... the smell of Grandma's kitchen early in the morning during the summer when she was canning peaches... spending time with my first horse, a little Welsh named Partner.... going fishing early in the morning with my Brother... Mom & Dad waking us kids up to go walk in the freshly fallen snow so that we could leave the first footprints..... Yes, growing up in our childhood years was much simpler than it is now.... there are times that I wish I could go back.... go back and listen to my Grandpa tell his stories of how he had to walk barefoot to school, in the snow, and it was uphill both ways... .... I surely do miss him. Anyway, Ewe, great blog and Thanks for taking me back yet again to relive some favorite memories of times that have slipped away like sand thru my fingers......
Kudos to you.

One of the things I love about you...the thoughtful quality and openness you bring to your blogs! I remember playing on the mound of rocks in the vacant lot down the street and, when ultimately I scraped my knees and sprained a finger, my parents patched me up and sent me back out without ever thinking about suing someone! I remember Sunday nights and the Lone Ranger on the radio. I remember big bowls of pop corn and all the neighbors sitting around our first TV watching Ed Sullivan. I was technically a latch key kid, but our house was never locked. And I remember wondering where it all went, though that was not so long ago that I wondered it as I had to sit outside and watch my grandkids play so they didn't go too near the street and/or get kidnapped...

Kudos, sweetie! Your blog made my day!

Tobaggan?? is that anything like a 49 Ford truck hood or a piece of corrugated roofing tin? Man not even a barb wire fence would stop a Ford hood sleeding down hill.

Darnit Danya!! I said I wasn't going to think today & here you have got the old brain running full titl again

Great Blog girl, A greenie for you

Great Blog Dayna.

Being a kid was great when I was a kid. Yeah we had a lot of chores to do..But we had our fun also..We didn't have material things. We used cardboard for sleds..Had a huge hill right across the street from where we lived..With a pond that froze in the winter. So we could iceskate.

Our grandparents would take us to the local dump so we could watch the bears dig for food..I would always tease my grandma because she would bring her purse with her..I said we are not going shopping at the dump..
I miss my grandparents..They were like my parents. They took us camping all over MN, WI, And Thunder Bay...We would sleep in a tent and the bears would be in the campground looking for food that was left out. We were never scared of them. Of course we didn't get real close to them either. Kept our distance.

Just a couple of months ago I was going through a big depression and missing my grandma..It had been over a year since she has passed away. I spent over a week crying. But one day it came to me that I was going to be ok..And she was in a better place. And someday we will see each other again. Until then I have the memories. Something no one can take away from me..

the smell of Grandma's kitchen early in the morning during the summer when she was canning peaches...
My Grandma, bless her heart, would make apple pies and she Always left me some extra dough and helped me to make cinnamon and sugar twists...Nothing beat her pies or her help so that I could do somethng so grown up then.

The more I read from all of you, the more memories I find...Thank You!!

You made me miss home But, I still like the rain on daytime and pretend i am doing something or cleaning something, just to be out there in the rain, unless I have somebody I could cuddle with.
