This could be good for a laugh. My late sainted mother's family had some awful names. They were so awful that most of her brothers and sisters (born in the 1920s) chose to go by nick names: Orville (Junior) Gertrude (Cora) Franklin (Frank) Bertha (Bernice, her middle name) Elmo (Buster) Dorothy (my mother) Ruth (I guess they ran out of odd names)
My name is an unusual one or was. Growing up, gay jokes involved Percy and Bruce. There was a campy song with the refrain of a prissy flamer saying, "Hi, I'm Bruce from the Chartreuse Moose." It was also a name much more common proportionally for black guys. It wasn't until Springsteen and Willis that the stigma faded.
When I was a veterans employment counselor, I had a young lady come to see me who had just gotten out of the navy. Her name was unusual, Tanishkia or something like that. I commented on it being unique. She said her parents just made it up. She confided in me that when she got stationed in Japan, she coincidentally discovered that her name was a "derogatory" term in Japanese. She did not reveal what it was and seemed a bit embarrassed by it.

My name, Shell, is pretty unusual. My paprents didn't even give me a middle name to fall back on. Just the letter "J.". They really did it to my sister. Wanita Uleta.

My paternal grandma is named Dorothy.I kind of like the name, makes me think of the Wizard of Oz of course.
But here's one in the list of..um..interesting names. While I was doing that ancestry dot com thingy for my mom a few months ago,I was researching her side of the family when lo,I came to find that her uncle(father's brother) was named- Hiawatha. No shit.I guess maybe the poem inspired my greatgrandmother, perhaps?

In my high school days of the late sixties, until the wonderful era of free love came into being, there was always one or two girls in school that had a reputation. In a neighboring school, that girl's real name was Paula Dix.

My family is from Ky as well, on my mother's side.
Aunts: Lula Nezzie Vida
Cousin: Cleotus
The rest are fairly normal. My name, Jeffrey, means "gift from God" though I imagine my mother is quite puzzled by that one.
