It always amazes me when people accuse others of the very thing same thing they are guilty of. What brought this to mind was me sitting on my son's porch as people sped by at about 65 mph when the speed limit is 30. My son lives in a neighborhood that is most made up of big houses that have been converted into apartments and there are a ton of children running around and yesterday I saw one driver slam on his brakes to avoid hitting a child. I sat there in amazement when he rolled down his window and screamed at this poor child, who was probably 5 yrs old (who went out there to retrieve his ball) that if it was his (the driver's) neighborhood he would be the one complaining about how fast people drove through his neighborhood, and yet he had no qualms about speeding through this one.

I have seen this many times and in many different ways.......perhaps its human nature for people to do it..........but personally I think most of the time its an "all about me, I am the victim" attitude of a lot of people.

Now I am not innocent of this either although I do drive through residential areas below the speed limit, I do on open roads, travel above the speed limit. I however do not get upset when I get stopped for it. (I truly believe if you accept a speeding ticket when you make the decision to speed, it really doesn't bother you too much when it happens)

I left Ohio on Tuesday morning........and of course i was usually anywhere from 5 to 10 mph over the speed limit thru ohio, Indiana, Illinois. and Wisconsin. Now in many of those places even going at that rate I was still being passed by a majority of the automobiles on the road so I felt a bit safer about not getting a speeding ticket...........well unless the state highway patrol would think I was the best bet to pull over since I wasn't going as fast.........but then I got to northern Wisconsin.

If you have ever driven there........you will notice that the road is pretty open and not usually much traffic. Hwy 53 is a divided highway and the speed limit is 65. I of course had my cruise set on 74. Suddenly out of no where was a Statie with his lights on. YEP! BUSTED!! So I pull over and he walks over to my car and asks me if I know why I am being pulled over. I of course wanting to get out of the speeding ticket I so richly deserve said No Officer I don't. (and after all am I sure that was the reason he pulled me over, perhaps I have a tail light out or something......... ) He tells me he got me on radar for 74 MPH. Now in most states if you are doing than less 6 mph over the speed limit they won't even bother you. SO i asked him if I had been doing 70 would you have pulled me over, he said no he wouldn't have and I said if I had been doing 71 mph would you have pulled me over, again he replied no he wouldnt have. So I continue on and tell him so basically what you are telling me is that you pulled me over for 3 mph. And he said no, I pulled you over for 9 mph over the speed limit.........so I reminded him he just told me he wouldn't have pulled me over for 71 so how did he figure I was 9 over what he would pull me over for. He started laughing and asked me how many times this had worked on other state troopers and I said I had never tried that before.........but i was tired from driving from Ohio and just couldn't get the energy up to deliver that one tear sliding down my cheek. That really made him laugh and in the end he told me he had really stopped me cause I was driving and out of state plate and speeding and to please slow it down and have a nice day.

My point is that when I was running with the Fire Department as a paramedic and was called to an accident where speeding had been involved I use to bitch about ppl that couldn't maintain the speed limit.........which in other words makes me a hippocrit........its ok for me to do but not for others.

I guess from now on if I want to bitch about something or accuse others of doing it I am going to have to make sure that I am not just as guilty of it as they are......wouldn't it be nice if everyone did that?

I have NEVER been able to produce a tear when pulled over for a traffic violation.

So I admire you for that...you might have wanted to flash your cute legs at him though...I have cute legs but it doesn't do any good with male officers....the females in the summer...that is another story...

Actually some very good points. And I don't get stopped much unless I am driving the farm truck in town...rust on one side...scrapes on the other and a load of lumber in the back...they figure there has to be something wrong with that picture....HA!!!! I always have a DL, registration and insurance...kudo for you....

I have recently slowed down mostly because it saves gas. About a month ago I recieved a written warning for going 34 mph in a 20 mph school zone. The sign was hidden behind some tree braches and as soon as I saw it I immedialty hit the brakes. By the time I passed the sign I was going 29 mph. While I would never try to get out of a ticket, I did complain that the sign was partially blocked. The police officer brushed off my complaint like I hadn't said a word. I wanted to argue, because I'm good at it, but he said I was just going to get a warning if everything was okay with my license and the car. Everything check out okay, so he just gave me a written warning. No sooner than I pulled out I saw him pulling over his next victim. So, I guess the lesson I learned was just take what I have coming to me and carry on.

ewe, i know very well where you are coming from, and tho the truck i was driving wouldn't do but 66 on a downgrade with a tail wind, that was what i tried to keep it at, no matter what state i was in. i couldn't speed that thing down a residential street, just being on most would get me a ticket. but i still drive my POV a little above the limit most of the time, and have cars whiz by me like i'm sitting still. except where there are kids and lots of houses. then i go very close to the limit or under it. i've had too many little ones dart out in front of me to do other wise.

good story tho, i'll have to remember that and see if it works for me, lol. but somehow i doubt it would, you are lots cuter than i am.

Kudos my lady for getting out of that ticket! Very well done!!!

I have myself gotten pissed at people who fly thru my neighborhood, but I then catch myself not speeding, but going a little faster thru other neighborhoods to get to work...so now I go slow thur all of them and boy do I piss of alot of people...Screw them, there are a ton of kids around and it's getting to be summer over here and there will be a ton more out. So, I have calmed down on my speeding thru any neighborhood....Now as for the highway, I go 75mph....that's about as fast as I can go in my piece o' shit Ford!!!

We have the same problem in my neighborhood. We have been trying to get the traffic like restored since it's been flashing yellow since Dec.1999 three blocks down from us.

We know that no one is responsible for their actions today so it has to be someone else’s fault. I think a lot of us can blame our parents; after all how many of you have heard them say, “Do as I say not as I do.” I have said several times lately on AMD if individual pointing fingers would first look in a mirror they may not be so quick to point.

BTW, I recently I was running late to pick my grandson up to go to the movies and had a local stop me doing 71 in a 55. When he asked if I knew why I had been stopped I said, “Yes officer, I was trying to use my car as a time machine because I am late to pick up my grandson”. He ran my license, etc and came back with a warning and asked, “Don’t you think your grandson would rather see you late than me having to tell him you’d been killed in an accident?” Most things do not get to me but must admit I sat there for a bit even after he had pulled away.

When they raised the speed limit back up to 65 on interstates, the southern part of 53 was 65mph, but once you got north of Rice Lake, it was 55mph. We were up there on vacation and I was running up to Spooner for supper and got pulled over. He asked if I knew why, and I said no, I honestly didn't. He said I was speeding and I said I was only doing 65 and he said it dropped to 55 here. oh

I was driving my rusty old suburban and he looked in the back and saw my 3 kids (behaving themselves, I might add) and he reminded me to watch the signs & enjoy my vacation & let me go.

Guess Wis Cops are just nice, period.

That is good!

I got busted doing 65 in a 55..and when the cop asked if I knew how fast I was going...I told him "no, my speedometor just broke a few miles back, so I'm guessing"...and It worked! (it wasn't broke...I just didn't want the ticket ). He just told me to get it fixed and let me go.
