Do you agree or disagree - don't act like a politican by changing the subject and making this a political statement.
Should the U. S. Federal government eliminate the federal gas tax between Memorial Day and Labor Day. It currently is 18 cents so it would lower all gas by 18 cents a gallon. 10 gallons would be $ 1.80 times 15 week = $ 27.00

Sounds good. But then there is always that downside of up keep with road repairs. Without that revenue where will the federal government get that money for road and highway repairs? At least that's what people for keeping this tax there are saying...

NO. All the oil companies will do is raise the prices by that much in order for them to get it than the people. If the gov. wants to do that, then why not just hand over the 10 billion dollars it will cost the government and eventually the tax payer to the oil companies and ask them not to raise prices. Now there a big laugh for you.

consumers would not get 18 cents.
estimates of what consumers would get is about $30
for the whole four-month period.
it's grandstanding by mccain and clinton.
obama got this one right.
i vote no based on the evidence.

No, the tax is such a small amount and the oil companies will just raise it what we would have been paying for tax.

No, not unless it is offset by taking away the tax breaks given to the oil industry a few years ago.

The Final Word ... from the best possible source:
Gail Collins is one of he funniest writers in the recent history of
NYC journalism. Sprung from a long jail sentence on the editorial board
of the NY Times, she is back to writing hot op-eds.

1 Stop taxing necessities. No moratorium... repeal the gas tax.
2 Tap the strategic oil reserve.
3 Stop oil company profiteering by instituting a progressive tax rate on oil company profits.
4 Use new revenues to subsidize conversion of coal to coal oil for refining.
5 Drill the in the ANWR.
These are short term!
Long term is another subject completely.

That money goes to build and repair roads..... AND bridges.
I'd rather have the bridges fixed before I drive over them.

It's all too little and too late. If there isn't enough to go around then its time to start rationing. Let's cut out the real waste: The wealthy who burn it lavishly for recreation.
Aren't we at war? Aren't we fighting for oil?
Poor people need to make it to work. Rich people don't need to drive Hummers to soccer and ballet practice.
